From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 120

Eleanor hurried into the hospital, barely catching her breath.

“Ms. Rolland, you’re in luck today,” the chief physician greeted her with a wide smile. “We found a donor for Jared. He’s Korean, and he’s agreed to stay here so we can get the transplant done as soon as possible.”

Eleanor’s heart leapt. “Are you serious? You’re not just saying that to make me feel better, are you?”

The doctor laughed. “Why would I joke about something like this? It’s true.” He was clearly relieved too. Jared had been his patient longer than anyone else. The doctor had gone from resident to department head, and still, Jared’s case was unsolved.

He continued, “I’ve already ordered a full set of tests for Jared today. If everything checks out, I’m hoping we can do the surgery on Saturday.”

Eleanor could barely contain her excitement. “That’s amazing! Thank you!” Words just didn’t seem enough for what she was feeling.

The doctor’s tone turned a little more serious. “Ms. Rolland, you need to understand there are risks. Even though this donor is a perfect match, every case is different, and complications can happen. This consent form explains everything. Please read it carefully. These are things you need to know.”

Eleanor nodded and read over the risks, though she practically knew them by heart after all these years. Still, this was the first time she actually had a chance to sign.

“Doctor, Jared and I will sign. We agree to the surgery. But I’m not his legal guardian, so my mom will have to sign the final consent.”

She bowed deeply. “Thank you for not giving up on Jared. Really, thank you.”

The doctor, who had seen so much in his career, looked genuinely moved. “Let’s be prepared for anything, but let’s hope for the best.”

Juliana frowned, clearly torn. “Why can’t you just ask Ms. Goff? What if Jared’s body rejects the marrow from a Korean? Do you care more about money than Jared’s health?”

Eleanor shook her head, frustrated. “Mom, bone marrow isn’t about nationality. And this donor isn’t asking for anything in return. He’s Korean-Chinese, so he has Chinese blood too.”

She took a deep breath, trying to hold on to her patience. “If you won’t sign this, the surgery can’t happen. Who knows how many more years we’d have to wait for another perfect match?”

Jared reached for the form, pulling it out of his mother’s hands. “I’ll sign, Eleanor. If Mom doesn’t want to, you can sign for her.”

He looked at Juliana, his voice steady. “Mom, I want this surgery. We need to trust the doctors. We need to trust science.”
