From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 145

Adam climbed the stairs, calling out softly, “Jessie, it’s me. I’m coming in.”

Out of all her brothers, Adam spoiled Jessie the most. When their mother passed away, she had held Adam’s hand and made him promise to always look after his little sister. Adam loved their mother deeply and had never once forgotten that promise.

Every girlfriend he’d ever had was gone the second Jessie so much as frowned at them. There was even one woman Adam was truly into, but the moment Jessie said that woman had mocked her behind her back for being a widow, Adam broke up with her right away, and never let her back into his life.

Jessie knew how much her brothers adored her, and she took full advantage of it. But now, after their dad yelled at her for the first time ever, she felt completely lost.

“Don’t cry, I’m here,” Adam said, gently rubbing her back.

Jessie’s tears wouldn’t stop. “Adam, does Dad not love me anymore? Why would he believe what other people say and treat me like that?”

Adam knew exactly who “other people” meant. He pictured that stubborn, determined face in his mind.

“Jessie, do you really like Peter?” he asked.

To be honest, Peter was just from a lesser branch of the Clarkson family, descended from someone the main family barely acknowledged. Adam didn’t think much of him either.

The Goff family had only agreed to let their daughter marry Grady because he was so outstanding. They thought he’d help the Clarkson family rise even higher. No one ever imagined tragedy would strike so suddenly.

Grady’s unexpected death shocked everyone. Overnight, Jessie became a widow.

Autumn had fainted and was rushed into emergency surgery. He’d pulled together the best doctors he could find to save his mom.

As he waited, Peter realized he was completely alone. Anxiety twisted in his chest and he reached for his phone, searching for a little comfort. He texted someone again, but the message bounced right back.

His heart sank. She had blocked this number too. He couldn’t even remember how many times Eleanor had blocked him.

Lost in his thoughts, his phone suddenly rang. It was Adam.

“Peter, I’m not going to argue about what happened with my sister today. But if you still care about her, if you want to be with her, then come pick her up yourself.”
