From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 15

Eleanor was living in a hotel. She actually owned two apartments in the city, but Peter knew about both, and she had no interest in staying in either of them.

Yolanda, her friend, was worried. After all, Eleanor had just gone through a miscarriage, and living alone in a hotel didn’t sit right with her.

As it happened, Yolanda had an empty apartment downtown. “Just move in with me, Eleanor,” she insisted. “Honestly, don’t be shy. If you’re polite with me, you’re not treating me like a real friend. I have more apartments than I know what to do with. Just use one.”

Eleanor couldn’t help but laugh through her tears. “Alright, I’ll take you up on it.”

Yolanda took care of checking her out of the hotel, and soon enough, Eleanor was settled in the new place. Once she had a moment to herself, she started sorting through her bank accounts.

Peter had been sending her a share of the company’s profits every month. She never touched the money, just let it sit there, piling up. In five years, it had grown to over twenty million. That was more than enough to cover her brother’s medical bills.

Even if she ended up divorcing Peter in court, she’d still get at least half of his assets. She figured if she had to suffer through heartbreak, at least she’d be compensated for it.

Peter would never let her have any say in the company itself. She knew that. But she could still push for a lump sum payout when it came time to negotiate.

He would definitely come find her once he saw the divorce papers. And even if he didn’t, she already had his signature on the agreement. Once her health recovered, she could go straight to court.

No matter how she looked at it, leaving him seemed like the smartest move.

As for custody of their daughter, she’d already decided to give that up.

Thinking about her brother, Eleanor took the afternoon to rest, then headed to the hospital. She stopped at the billing office and added another hundred thousand to Jared’s account for his treatments.

With a bag of fresh fruit in hand, she walked into his hospital room.

“Eleanor!” Jared looked up from his book, his eyes instantly lighting up. “Aren’t you supposed to be at work today?”

Her smile faltered for a split second, but she quickly changed the subject. “How are you feeling these days? I spoke to Dr. Sidler earlier. He said there’s a new donor match being tested, and it sounds pretty promising.”

Jared had been waiting for a bone marrow match for seventeen years. Every family member, even distant relatives on their father’s side, had been tested. None of them were a match.

Juliana scoffed. “Oh, sure. She just decided to throw herself down the stairs for no reason? Is that what you expect me to believe?”

She shook her head, her tone full of judgment. “Yeah, maybe she did. Just looking for pity from people who refuse to see the truth.”

“You’re impossible!” Jared said, his voice trembling with anger.

Juliana raised her hand, ready to slap Eleanor, but Jared stepped in, grabbing her arm. His face was flushed with emotion. “Mom! Eleanor’s pregnant. Are you really going to hit someone who’s pregnant?”

Juliana suddenly realized she’d almost hit her son, and her expression softened with guilt.

“You silly boy, why are you protecting her? You’re the one who’s sick.”

Jared’s brow furrowed in frustration. “Mom, you can’t treat Eleanor like this. She’s our family. That other woman is just an outsider. Isn’t it right to trust our own family?”
