From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 153

Jessie Goff had been at Autumn’s side in the hospital for three straight days, doing everything she could to help. Peter Clarkson showed up every day too, and lately, he wasn’t so cold toward Jessie anymore.

Autumn, on the other hand, was still fuming. She couldn’t get over the fact that Peter had given Jessie gifts worth five hundred million. Five hundred million dollars. The number kept spinning in her head, impossible to forget.

“Mom, do you want some water?” Peter asked, trying to be helpful.

Autumn waved him off. “Let Jessie get it for me.”

Jessie had never waited on Autumn like this back at home. Now, being bossed around like a maid made her skin crawl. Still, she kept her face calm and gentle. “Sure, Mom. I’ll go get it right now.”

As soon as Jessie left the room, Autumn turned to Peter and grabbed his arm. “Peter, you need to be careful with Jessie. She’s got a lot going on behind those eyes. Even after you’re divorced from Eleanor, don’t let your guard down around her.” She would never approve of Jessie marrying her son.

Peter just nodded. “I know, Mom.” He wasn’t about to argue with her. Right now, her health came first.

Across town, Adam was sitting with Eleanor in a quiet coffee shop. He watched her with a cold, unreadable smile.

“So, what do you want? Tell me your conditions. What will it take for you to drop the lawsuit and divorce Peter peacefully?”

Adam’s father was furious about the accusations against his sister in the lawsuit, but Adam didn’t really care if Eleanor got divorced or not. There were plenty of ways to end a marriage, and lawsuits were just one of them. What he wanted was for Eleanor to back off and leave his sister alone.

But Eleanor wasn’t intimidated. She knew her case was solid and she had a good shot at winning in court. Her brother was already out of the hospital, and she figured Adam didn’t have any real leverage over her. She hadn’t realized just how far Adam was willing to go.

“I’ll be straight with you,” Adam said, his voice low and threatening. “If you don’t agree, I’ll make sure your brother gets expelled. Not just that, but no school in the whole city will take him. Your mother? I can make her pick up a gambling habit. Your family will never have peace again. And you, with your research job… don’t think I couldn’t ruin your career at the company if I wanted to.”

He had the power to back up his words. When someone like Adam wanted to play dirty, fairness didn’t mean anything.

“Are you so busy? Laura says she’s tried to meet up with you a bunch of times, but you always say no.”

Eleanor gave a tired smile. “Professor, I’m free this weekend. If Laura’s okay with it, I’d love to come by.”

She hadn’t meant to be distant. Between surgeries for her brother, the lawsuit, and trying to find a new school for Jared, she hadn’t had a single break.

“Good. Come by on Saturday.” Without waiting for a reply, Tim hung up.

Eleanor shook her head and couldn’t help but smile. Her professor was as intense and impatient as ever.

On the weekend, Eleanor let Max know she couldn’t make him meals and took the time off for herself.
