From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 167

Peter didn’t really care whether Max decided to leave or not. He knew there was no way to make everyone happy. Fixing things with Max could wait until later.

Katie was home too. She knew about Peter’s connection to Jessie Goff, so she figured she’d do Jessie a favor.

“Peter, come on in. Have a seat.”

That simple gesture felt like a huge relief to Peter, as if someone had just handed him hope on a silver platter.

“Thank you, Katie.”

George raised his eyebrow at Katie but didn’t say anything. Hunter, on the other hand, shot Katie a thoughtful look. She sure warmed up to guests fast.

George started some casual small talk about work. “Peter, I think Hunter’s working on a medical project right now. If you get the chance, you should chat with him about it.”

Peter could hardly believe his luck. This was exactly what he’d been angling for.

“Really… are you sure?”

George smiled in a reassuring way. “Of course. Go ahead and talk to Hunter.”

Hunter was way easier to approach than Max anyway.

“My younger son is just like that,” George said with a sigh. “Sometimes, when he gets in a mood, even I can’t do anything about it.”

Peter just smiled. “No worries. I get it.”

With a few easy exchanges, things started to feel a little more relaxed around the table.

The only one still quiet was Marleigh. She picked at her food, barely saying a word, and didn’t even get up when Peter left.

Later, as George was heading to his room, Marleigh finally spoke up. “So, are you planning to break your own rule now?”

She remembered years ago, when her father had cheated, how George had refused to let the other woman’s son join the Clarkson family. Even after both the mistress and his father had passed away, George had never changed his mind about it.

But tonight, Marleigh could see he was wavering.

George let out a long sigh. “That was their drama, not ours. It has nothing to do with us now. Besides, Peter saved me today.”

He paused, looking at her. “And what about Max? Was his attitude really okay today?”

If she couldn’t get out, at least she could rest.

After leaving the family house, Max immediately had someone check into what Peter had been up to at the mall. He knew exactly what Peter was after.

His assistant reported back that the elevator issue had been a real mechanical failure, not sabotage. It just so happened that Peter and his father were in the same elevator.

What were the odds? Was Peter really that lucky?

Feeling restless, Max went back to his apartment. On impulse, he headed over to Eleanor’s place.

He rang her doorbell, waiting five minutes, but no one showed up.

Was she still out?

He texted her, but got no reply. Maybe she hadn’t seen it. He tried calling her next.
