From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 172

Knock, knock.

Peter stood outside the door.

She hurried to scoop up the torn doll from the floor, stuffing it into the closet before smoothing out her expression. “Peter, were you looking for me?”

Peter stepped inside and closed the door behind him. “Don’t let what my mom said bother you. If you want a wedding, we’ll probably have to wait until next year.”

“If the Clarkson family is ready to accept me by then, let’s do it. We’ll have the wedding, okay?”

Jessie had no idea Peter was just giving her empty promises. Right now, George might feel like he owed Peter a favor, but who knew how long that would last. Peter still wasn’t even allowed to call George “Grandpa,” and that made all the difference. Even after Peter saved him, the old fox just wanted to pay him back with money or favors, nothing more.

Jessie felt a spark of happiness. “Don’t worry, Peter. We’ll figure it out together. Honestly, the wedding isn’t the most important thing.”

She tried to sound casual, but inside she was buzzing with excitement. All her frustrations from earlier seemed to disappear. Later, lying on her bed, she even started searching for lucky dates for their marriage license.

Her phone buzzed with a call from Adam.

“Jessie, remember what you asked me to look into? I found something interesting.”

“Really, Adam? I’ll come to the office right now!”

Jessie had asked Adam to investigate Juliana. There was just something about the way Juliana acted—way too eager to please Jessie, and way too cold toward Eleanor, even for a mother who preferred her son.

Adam slid a report across the desk. “Before Juliana worked as your family’s nanny, she was a top-tier maternity nurse at Loving Care. She left that job because she got pregnant.”

Jessie could already imagine the look on Eleanor’s face when she heard the news. She wanted Eleanor to be miserable forever, to always be beneath her.

Eleanor was at work, completely unaware that someone was out there, watching her every move and waiting for the right moment.

[Eleanor, I’m downstairs at your office. Are you free for lunch today?]

Eleanor wasn’t sure why Marleigh wanted to see her, but she kept her reply polite.

[Sure, I’m free for lunch.]
