From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 173

When Eleanor walked into the restaurant, Marleigh had already ordered for both of them.

“Eleanor, take a look and see if you want to add anything. I was worried about the lunch rush, so I just ordered for you,” Marleigh said, glancing up with a gentle smile.

Eleanor smiled back. “This is perfect, Mrs. Clarkson. Really, there’s already more than enough. I doubt we’ll even finish it all.”

They chatted for a bit, light conversation filling the spaces between them. Then Marleigh leaned in, her voice lowering just a little. “So, Eleanor, have you noticed anything unusual lately?”

Eleanor felt her shoulders tense. She straightened up, answering carefully. “We’ve all been busy in the lab, so nothing out of the ordinary has happened. I haven’t even seen Mr. Clarkson recently, and I haven’t heard any gossip about him either.”

She hesitated, then added, “Mr. Clarkson always keeps things professional with everyone at work. Honestly, I’m probably not much help as your inside source...”

Marleigh laughed softly, waving away the concern. “Don’t worry about it. You don’t have to dig up any secrets for me. If you ever do notice something, just let me know.”

She paused, then shifted the topic. “By the way, did the court make a decision about your divorce yet?”

Eleanor shook her head. “Not yet.”

Marleigh wondered if Eleanor knew about Peter Clarkson’s connection to her family. She wanted to ask, but the words got stuck. There was so much she wanted to understand, especially about why things had ended the way they did between Eleanor and Peter.

Marleigh smiled. “Alright, Eleanor. Go on, get back to work.”

As Eleanor turned to leave, Marleigh’s eyes caught on her silhouette. She fumbled for her phone, quickly pulling up a photo Katie had sent her a while ago, holding it up for a closer look. The woman’s back in the photo looked so much like Eleanor’s. For a moment, the thought nagged at her.

But she shook her head, brushing it off. Max wouldn’t go for a married woman, especially not someone who worked for him. He’d always been against office relationships. Besides, Eleanor was still technically married.

Marleigh smiled to herself, feeling a little ridiculous. Her son would bring home a girlfriend when he was ready. No need to overthink it.

Just as Eleanor started walking toward the elevator, her phone buzzed with a new message from Linden.
