From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 193

Juliana locked the door behind her and took the keys, leaving Jared trapped inside with no way to call for help. He paced around the apartment, nerves shot.

Her thoughts flashed back to three days earlier, when that awful man threatened her using Jared as leverage. There was no way she’d let anything happen to him.

But Eleanor…

A pang of guilt pushed at Juliana, but she brushed it away. This was survival. If Eleanor had money but couldn’t protect it, that was on her.

Eleanor made it to Jared’s school in just twenty minutes, but she didn’t see him anywhere near the gate. She was about to go inside and ask when a little kid tugged on her sleeve.

“Excuse me, miss, are you looking for a big brother?”

Eleanor’s eyes were wide, her voice shaking. “Yes, do you know where he is?”

The kid licked her lollipop, then pointed shyly at a nearby alley. “He’s in there.”

Eleanor didn’t hesitate. She ran straight down the alley. Before she could react, a hand reached out from behind and pressed a cloth to her face. Her vision swam, and everything went dark.

Juliana helped lift Eleanor into a silver van parked nearby, her heart pounding in her chest.

“I brought her like you wanted. Can I leave now?” she asked, voice trembling.

Patrick was in the driver’s seat, grinning like it was all a game. “Why are you in such a hurry? You’re coming with us too. She’s our daughter, isn’t she? You really planning to just walk away from her?”

Juliana’s legs felt weak. “I don’t want to go. You’re her dad. You wouldn’t really hurt her, would you?”

[Chad, can you call the police for me? My sister’s in trouble, and I’m locked in the apartment with no phone.]

[Are you serious? What am I supposed to say?]

Jared hesitated. What could he even tell the cops to make them listen? Would they even take him seriously? He was just a kid.

Then he remembered the business card. He’d found it tucked away after his surgery, from that man who had come to visit. The man liked Eleanor. Maybe he’d help.

[Chad, can you call this number for me? Just say Eleanor’s in trouble. Here’s my address. He’ll get it. Thanks, man.]

[No problem. I’ll call right now.]
