From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 201

“Do you want to go to the ceremony platform?” Eleanor asked. The first time she’d done this, she’d dragged Peter Clarkson along, thinking it was part of the process. He’d refused, though. Turns out, once you had the marriage certificate, that was it. No big ceremony needed. Getting married was really that simple.

“I don’t think we need to,” Eleanor said.

Max, on the other hand, wasn’t letting it go. “We’re already here. Look, everyone else is going up there.”

Before she could argue, he took her gently by the wrist and led her toward the platform. It was Monday, nothing special on the calendar, so the office was pretty quiet.

Max stepped up, picked up a card, and looked down. His voice was low and steady. “For richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, I will love and protect you for the rest of my life.”

“No matter what comes our way, whether we’re happy or sad, I’ll stay by your side, always.”

He looked up, meeting her eyes. “Eleanor, will you marry me?”

Her eyes went wide, heart thumping so loud she could barely hear anything else. She hadn’t felt this nervous or excited in ages. It was like her frozen heart suddenly started beating again, warm and alive.

Her lashes trembled. She whispered the three words that changed everything. “I do.”

The words felt like they floated straight to him, light and soft, brushing past his ear and settling right in his heart.

They were married.

Max couldn’t help himself. He tilted her chin up, leaning in, stopping just a breath away from her lips. His voice turned playful. “Can I kiss you?”

Eleanor couldn’t get a word out. Her face turned bright red, even down to her neck.

He grinned. “Not saying anything? That’s a yes.”

Max nodded. “So, just at the office, we keep it a secret?”

“Yeah, just at work.”

He thought about it. Just at work. Nowhere else.

“Alright,” he said. “Let’s go shopping. Do you like my apartment? If not, I have other places. We can check them out this afternoon, see which one feels right for us.”

He smiled at her. “It’ll be our new home.”

Eleanor instantly blushed. “The… the current one is fine.”

Max grinned. “Alright. Let’s shop for some home stuff.”
