From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 210

Eleanor showed up at Peter’s office right on time. She wore a cream-colored dress, her makeup barely there, but the deep green jade bracelet on her wrist stood out so much it was impossible to ignore.

She’d almost taken it off before leaving home. Her marriage contract with Max had this rule. If either of them was meeting someone of the opposite sex alone, they had to let the other know first, just to avoid any drama. Eleanor had asked Max about it, and he’d just said, “Wear the bracelet.” She hadn’t really understood, but she did what he asked anyway. On the ride to Horizon Collective, she couldn’t help but feel a little anxious, half-worried someone might try to snatch the insanely expensive bracelet off her wrist.

Peter was waiting for her, wearing a white shirt, the top buttons undone. When he saw her, his dark eyes widened for just a second. He had to admit, Eleanor had only gotten more beautiful since they split up. The dress was simple, but it hugged her waist perfectly, and Peter felt his throat go dry for a moment.

“Sit down,” he said, doing his best to sound casual as he pointed at the chair across from his desk.

Eleanor took her seat, moving with the kind of easy confidence that always got under his skin. She rested both hands on the table. “So, which numbers do you need me to look at?”

Peter’s eyes dropped to her wrist, instantly caught by the vivid green of her bracelet. He squinted. “When did you get into jade jewelry?” He sounded almost mocking.

Eleanor rolled her eyes. “Peter, aren’t we here to talk about the last bit of the asset split? Let’s stick to the point.”

His lips pressed together as he studied her face. That bracelet wasn’t cheap. Did she buy it with his money?

He let out a short laugh. “I have to say, Eleanor, I didn’t realize you were so materialistic. We were married for years, and now you’re finally showing your true self.”

She shot him a look, totally unimpressed. “If you have something to say, just say it. I don’t feel like wasting my time.”

“Alright, if that’s it, I’ll get going.”

She was just reaching for the doorknob when Peter called out, “Wait.”

Eleanor paused and looked back, her hand on the door. “What now?”

He wanted to ask if she really got remarried. The question hovered in the air, but he couldn’t get the words out. A guy like him, always in control, just couldn’t bring himself to ask something that made him look so vulnerable.
