From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 216

She looked like just another harmless girl, with nothing special in her background.

Mr. Truman came back into the room, a phone in his hand. He paused, giving Grant Goff a long, meaningful stare. He’d always known Grant was arrogant and a troublemaker, but he hadn’t realized just how far that attitude went.

A girl had slipped him the phone in secret, having recorded the entire incident. That video was better than any witness statement. To thank her for stepping up, Mr. Truman decided to overlook the fact that she’d broken the rules by bringing a phone to school.

He glanced at Eleanor. “Jared, you and Grant step outside for a bit. Chad, keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t start anything.”

He saw no need to make Jared hear those insults all over again now that he understood why the fight broke out.

But Jared latched onto Eleanor’s hand. “Come with me. Let’s just leave, okay? We don’t have to listen to this.”

She smiled at him, calm and gentle. “Don’t be silly. He’s got nothing on me. I’ll be fine. Go wait outside, and promise me you won’t cause any more trouble.”

Jared’s grip tightened. His eyes were red. “I’m not going. Sir, just play it here.”

Mr. Truman let out a silent sigh. This kid really was stubborn. “Alright.”

He played the video. Most of the footage was just Grant’s smug, cocky face as he spat out one lie after another. Wesley’s eye twitched at the nastiness of it. Grant inched away from his dad, but he still caught the furious glare sent his way. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to pin this on Jared today. The fact that he’d gotten beaten up and had no way to get even made him even angrier.

Wesley forced a laugh. “Alright, that’s enough. I get it. It’s my kid’s fault. Let’s just forget the fight ever happened.”

“Forget it?” Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “Mr. Truman, do you really think the school can just let this go? My little brother was bullied, and you’re saying we should just move on?”

Mr. Truman stiffened up. He had hoped to smooth things over quietly, but it was clear Eleanor was not about to let this slide. Who could blame her? Anyone would be angry after hearing that kind of slander.

He sighed. “Ms. Rolland, I’ll report this to the school. Our leadership will discuss it and give you a final decision.”

“Grant Goff, you need to write a one-thousand-word reflection. Jared, you shouldn’t have hit anyone, so you’ll write five hundred words. Since both of you got hurt, we’ll just call the medical expenses even.”

“It’s getting late. Parents, please take your children home. Once the school has a decision, I’ll contact you both.”

Eleanor was obviously unhappy with this resolution. Wesley wasn’t satisfied either.

They left separately. Eleanor’s heart ached a little as she looked at Jared’s bruised face.

“You idiot. Why would you fight? If a dog bites you, are you going to bite it back?”

He thought she was tempted and gave a crooked smile. “Something like that. If you’re with me, you’ll never have to worry about money.”

Eleanor smiled softly, almost amused. “Sorry, but I’m not interested in being anyone’s mistress. And who said I’m broke?”

“I wonder if Mrs. Goff knows her husband is out here shopping for a mistress?”

Wesley’s eyes narrowed. “Are you threatening me? My wife does whatever I say. Even if you told her, do you really think she’d believe you?”

With that, he slammed his car door and drove away.

Just her word wouldn’t count for much.

Eleanor pulled her phone from her pocket. From the moment she’d stepped into the office, she’d been recording.

What if she had proof?

“Jared, let’s go. We need to find Mr. Truman again.”
