Max pulled his car up beside Eleanor so fast it was like he appeared out of nowhere. He’d found out what happened at the office through his assistant, and as soon as he heard she’d been taken to the police station, he dropped everything and rushed over.
“Who did this?” His eyes were sharp and cold, his voice tight with anger.
Eleanor hadn’t relaxed for even a second. “Some crazy woman. Come on, let’s get in the car and I’ll explain.”
Max told the driver to take them home. He looked Eleanor over, worry etched on his face. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
She shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“Someone filmed the whole thing at work. Can you check online? I’m worried she’s going to post it.”
Eleanor unlocked her phone and saw her name trending. But almost as soon as it popped up, the post vanished.
“Did you take it down for me?” she asked.
Max shook his head. “I haven’t even told my assistant yet. Give me a second, I’ll make some calls.”
Eleanor frowned. If it wasn’t him, then who?
At that moment, Paola was watching the video, her heart aching at the sight of a girl who looked so much like her own daughter getting attacked online. She made a few calls and had the trending post deleted. People thought things trended just because enough folks searched for them, but with enough money, anything could disappear. “I’m doing this for my daughter’s sake,” she muttered. She also remembered that Eleanor was married, not some homewrecker like the internet was saying. She’d seen the marriage certificate with her own eyes.
