From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 256

“What else could it be? You’re the one who went out and got the marriage license!”

Otto didn’t want to say anything more about it. The marriage was done, the papers were signed, and his daughter couldn’t be happier.

“Just remember, you’re holding the shares now. Be careful with them, all right?”

Jessie couldn’t figure out where things had gone so wrong. Why did everything have to get so complicated?

Her eyes turned red with frustration, and Adam felt a pinch in his heart seeing her like that. “It’s all Eleanor’s fault. If she hadn’t taken half of Peter Clarkson’s assets, his family wouldn’t be acting this desperate.”

“Yes, you’re right, Adam. It’s all her fault!”

Jessie had almost forgotten about Eleanor.

Kennedy stood there frowning, but he didn’t say a word. Jessie had wrecked someone else’s family—did she really think the other woman would just walk away with nothing? That would never make sense, no matter how you tried to justify it. He just shook his head, deciding to keep quiet rather than upset Jessie even more.

Peter Clarkson’s car pulled up right behind theirs at the Goff house.

“Jessie!”

Seeing Peter step out of the car, Jessie’s heart fluttered with happiness, but thinking about Autumn’s harsh words from earlier put a damper on her mood.

She pouted. “What are you doing here?”

Peter walked over with a humble look. “I’m sorry. My mom’s just... going through menopause lately. Please don’t take anything she said to heart.”

He turned to Otto. “Dad, you have my word. I’ll give Jessie the perfect wedding. I won’t let her get hurt again.”

Otto’s face finally softened, the tension in his jaw easing a bit.

“Peter, I hope you mean that. Don’t let me down.”

“I won’t. I’ll take care of Jessie.”

As the Goff brothers went inside, Peter gently took Jessie’s hand.

“When are you free? We should go take our wedding photos.”

His words melted away the last of her resentment. “You better keep your promise today!”

Peter grinned. “Of course. I wouldn’t dare forget.”
