In the end, Eleanor insisted Sydney take a solo shot of her. She wasn’t quite ready to risk sharing a headline with Max. Not yet, anyway.
“Then at least get a photo of us from behind,” Max said, glancing at her with a grin. “That’s safe enough, right?”
Sydney couldn’t help but laugh. It was funny how this usually mysterious, confident man seemed just a little less sure of himself around Eleanor. Maybe even a bit soft. Honestly, Sydney felt a twinge of envy, but she knew Eleanor deserved everything good that came her way.
“Alright,” she said. “But you’re not going to post it everywhere, are you?”
Max leaned over and gave Eleanor a quick kiss, unable to resist. “So smart,” he teased, “You get a kiss for that.”
Eleanor had no idea what had gotten into him lately. Ever since they got married, it was like someone flipped a switch. Max was suddenly everywhere, always flirting, showing off, making her want to roll her eyes at him almost daily.
Sydney snapped a perfect photo of their backs together, the two of them standing close and relaxed.
“Thanks,” Max said, asking her to send it to Eleanor so Eleanor could forward it to him. While Eleanor went off to change, Max was already busy picking the right filter and caption for his latest post.
Do we look good together?
The simple shot of their backs instantly blew up, grabbing everyone’s attention.
Katie stared at her phone, frowning. That silhouette looked weirdly familiar. Just then, she spotted her grandma and blurted out, “Grandma, who exactly is this Eleanor? Why is she so secretive?”
She’d heard that her grandparents had already met Eleanor, but somehow she’d managed to miss every chance. Eleanor had even visited their house once, or so she’d heard. But whenever Katie tried to ask her grandma for details, her grandma always dodged the question.
Marleigh felt a little helpless. Her son had begged her to keep everything under wraps, and honestly, she didn’t even know what she was supposed to be hiding. Did they really think Eleanor’s ex was going to show up out of nowhere and crash the wedding?
Marleigh just smiled. “You don’t know her, honey. Even if I told you her name, you wouldn’t recognize it. You’ll see her at the wedding, alright?”
