From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 27

Jared pressed his lips together. “So, was the director talking about Peter?”

“No,” Eleanor replied, her voice sharp and clear. “Peter wanted to stop paying for your medicine. He’s not that generous.”

Jared’s eyes dropped. “Eleanor, I’m sorry. You’ve had to go through so much because of me.”

Eleanor reached over and ruffled his hair. “Don’t say that. I should’ve seen things clearly sooner. Now that I finally have, I just hope the universe wakes up too and lets you get better.”

If their father hadn’t passed away, their mother would’ve tried to have another child, hoping for a bone marrow match for Jared. They’d been waiting for a donor for more than ten years.

Eleanor didn’t linger. She didn’t want to run into her mother and get into another argument, so she slipped out before her mom came home.

Jessie, meanwhile, was clutching an invitation as she hurried to find Peter.

“Peter, I got us into a charity gala. The people from the main branch will be there. You have to make the most of this.”

Peter’s eyes lit up with excitement. “Seriously?”

Jessie gave him a playful little smile. “Of course. Just don’t stay mad at me, okay?”

“Don’t worry. The preschool thing was minor. I went over and apologized today and they said they’d let it go.”

Honestly, all the other parents wanted was a simple apology.

“My mom was a little over the top the other day. Don’t let it bother you.”

Jessie had been upset too, but she bounced back quickly.

“I know. I’m not bothered,” she said.

Jessie looped her arm through his. “Let’s go to the gala together this weekend. And maybe, next time, we can take Olga shopping? I need to pick out a dress for the evening.”

Peter’s eyes grew soft. “Whatever you say.”

A week went by, and Peter still hadn’t brought up the divorce papers.

Eleanor had had enough. On her last free day before starting her new job, she went to the law firm.

Yolanda called Eleanor, dragging her out for some shopping.

“Eleanor, my mom is making me go to this gala tomorrow. I swear, she’s trying to set me up with someone. Can you please come with me? I need backup.”

Eleanor grinned. “You sure you want me there? What if I ruin your matchmaking plans?”

“It’s just a boring charity event. Who cares? Please, just come with me. I can’t survive it alone.”

Yolanda’s whining was impossible to resist. Eleanor caved. “Alright, alright, I’ll go.”

“I knew you’d say yes! And as a thank you, your dress tomorrow is on me.”

Eleanor smiled. “I won’t say no to that.”

Yolanda, who knew all the best boutiques, picked out a dress. “Eleanor, look at this misty blue one. With your fair skin, it’ll look amazing.”

Eleanor eyed the mermaid gown, hesitating when she saw the low, open back. “Don’t you think it’s a bit too revealing?”
