From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 270

Max shot Katie an impatient look but didn’t bother to answer her. Instead, he turned to Hunter. “Hunter, having brains is a blessing. Too bad Katie ended up with so few. Maybe you should get her some supplements or something, just in case. I’d hate to see her get outsmarted by her own stupidity one day.”

Hunter just stared at him, at a loss for words.

George cleared his throat. “Max, what kind of nonsense is that?”

Max just shrugged. “What do you want me to say? She can’t tell right from wrong and has zero manners. When did I ever give him a hard time? Did she even see anything with her own eyes?”

Katie’s face turned bright red. “I…”

“That’s enough, Katie. Apologize to Max,” Hunter said sharply. Lately, everything about Katie had been getting on his nerves.

Katie didn’t dare talk back. She pressed her lips together and muttered, “I’m sorry.”

Max gave a little snort and headed upstairs, leaving Katie standing there, her face even more sour than before.

“Katie, don’t act so disrespectful again,” Hunter said, his voice cool. “Max didn’t say a word, and you just jumped in to accuse him. Do you really still think you’re the one being treated unfairly?”

Katie realized she’d made a mistake and didn’t know how to defend herself. “Dad, I know I was wrong.”

“Alright. Go wash your hands and get ready for dinner.”

Recently, Marleigh had started comparing Eleanor and Katie. The difference between them was almost shocking. She glanced at Hunter. “I know work keeps you busy, but you really need to keep a closer eye on Katie’s upbringing. I’m not saying she needs to be outstanding, but she should at least have a good head on her shoulders.”

Hunter’s face looked a little embarrassed. “I know, Mom.”

Later, when Jared got home, Juliana noticed how dirty his backpack was and decided to wash it for him. While checking the pockets, she found a red invitation tucked inside.
