From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 281

Jessie Goff couldn’t shake her bad mood after the morning’s chaos. Her scowl didn’t go unnoticed. People whispered that her stormy face was a bad sign for the wedding.

Autumn stood nearby, rolling her eyes at Jessie so often she’d lost count. Otto finally leaned in and spoke gently, “Jessie, everyone here is from high society. Try to relax and look natural.”

That was enough to make Jessie force a stiff little smile, pretending to go along with Peter Clarkson for the crowd.

Peter was boiling inside too. So he’d messed up a silly wedding game and couldn’t tell her thumb from another finger. Was that really such a crime? Did she expect him to recognize her hand with his eyes closed? Peter suddenly felt Jessie was making a scene over nothing. She was the one who wanted a huge wedding, but now she was sulking in front of all the guests.

He felt a wave of disappointment settle over him. Was this really the right person to marry?

Their smiles for the photographer were all for show. The tension between them was obvious. Even the photographer shook his head. Who fights on their wedding day?

Soon, all the guests had arrived. George and Marleigh were at the main table. Even Hunter had shown up, just to be polite. Only Max was missing.

Katie whispered, “See? I told you. Max isn’t coming.”

Peter’s eyes darkened. The only person he really wanted here was Max. He was the real head of the Clarkson family.

Marleigh looked over at George. “Your son’s running late today.”

George let out a low sigh. “Maybe he won’t come at all.”

“He’ll be here,” Marleigh replied, confident. She knew her son. He’d waited a long time for this day.

Meanwhile, Jessie had disappeared backstage to change into another wedding dress, which took forever. The guests waited, and the stage stayed empty.

Peter tugged at his tie. Annoyance flickered in his eyes, but he kept it together.

Finally, Jessie appeared at the end of the aisle. Olga stood beside her, clutching a flower basket.
