From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 298

Max's eyes locked onto hers, dark and intense. He said quietly, “You were.”

Eleanor let out a soft sigh in her heart. “I really wasn’t.”

He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to the corner of her mouth. “Don’t be mad. Let’s just say it was my fault, okay?”

Her calm facade instantly shattered. She shrank back, a little flustered. “I’m really not mad.”

“Good. Let’s go home.” He let go of her chin, his hand sliding down until it found hers. Their fingers intertwined naturally. Eleanor’s cheeks went hot. She tried to pull away, but his grip was firm, giving her no chance to escape. They stayed hand in hand all the way out of the car.

Once they stepped inside, he finally let go. “I’m going to the bathroom,” Eleanor tossed over her shoulder, making a quick getaway. She couldn’t act normal around Max right now. Even if this was just a marriage on paper, he was way too good at this flirting thing.

She cupped her face, staring at her reflection. Her cheeks were pink, and her heart was racing. Was Max treating her like this because she reminded him of his first love? Is that why he was being so sweet?

She shook her head and gave her face a quick pat. “Stop overthinking. You’re getting divorced in a year anyway.” That thought brought her back to reality, and she finally calmed down.

...

Jessie Goff waited two whole days, but Juliana still hadn’t reached out. She was running out of patience. The end of the month was closing in, and there was no way Jessie was letting Eleanor marry Max without a hitch. She still hadn’t repaid Eleanor for ruining her own wedding.

Juliana had just finished making breakfast when she saw Jessie’s name pop up on her phone. Lately, every time her daughter called, it made her anxious. Jessie never showed any real affection toward her, even though Juliana had given her everything. All she got in return was blame and complaints. It hurt, of course it did, but Jessie was still her daughter by blood. Over the years, Juliana had been distant with Eleanor, her adopted daughter, but couldn’t fully ignore Jessie.
