From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 30

She burst into tears and ran straight into her dad’s arms.

Peter and Jessie both looked tense, their faces stiff.

Peter gently patted his daughter’s head, his eyes sharp and fixed on Max. “Sir, you don’t need to be so harsh.”

Eleanor gave a cold laugh, tossing in, “Well, the truth is usually hard to hear.”

Peter looked like he was about to snap back, but just then, The manager, Aaron, from SKC hurried in. The second he spotted Max, his heart skipped a beat. Why was someone so important here?

Trying to keep it together, he put on a stern face and turned to the salesgirl. “What’s going on?”

The salesgirl looked like she was about to cry. “Aaron, it’s just that Ms. Goff wanted to try on a dress, but another customer was already wearing it. I just asked the first customer to take it off, so Ms. Goff could try it.”

Max quietly moved to the side and sat on a couch in the waiting area, acting like none of this had anything to do with him.

But when Aaron saw Max absentmindedly running his fingers over his watch, he tensed up. “Did you even ask the first customer if she wanted to buy the dress?”

Eleanor let out a sarcastic laugh. “She didn’t ask me a thing. Didn’t care if I wanted it or if I could afford it. She just decided I needed to hand it over right away... for Ms. Goff.”

Her words had a sting, and Jessie bit her lip until it almost bled.

“Aaron, that’s not—”

“That’s enough!” Aaron cut her off and turned to Eleanor with an apologetic smile. “I’m very sorry, miss. If you like the dress, you absolutely have first dibs. This was a failure in our staff training, and it clearly made your experience unpleasant. The employee will be suspended for retraining. On top of that, the mall would like to offer you two large-value gift cards. Does this sound fair to you?”

Eleanor wasn’t the type to make a scene when she’d already won. “That’s fine. Please wrap up the dress for me. But don’t give her credit for the sale.”

She shot Jessie a dismissive glance. “Sorry, not letting you have it this time.”

She turned, wanting to thank Max, but he had already slipped away without her noticing.

He sat in the car, his face serious as he looked at his daughter, who was still sniffling. “Olga, who taught you to throw a fit in public just because things didn’t go your way?”

That scene in the mall had been beyond embarrassing.

Olga’s big round eyes filled with disbelief. “Daddy, are you mad at me?”

Peter didn’t mean to be so stern, but her behavior had been way out of line.

Jessie quickly scooped Olga into her arms and soothed her. “Don’t cry, Olga. Daddy’s not mad at you. He’s just upset with your mom, that’s all.”

She looked at Peter. “She’s still little, Peter. We can teach her as she grows up.”

Then Jessie leaned in, lowering her voice, “By the way, do you think that man and Eleanor know each other?”
