From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 324

Was Max just waiting for the perfect moment to strike?

Jessie’s lips parted in shock. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing, but she quickly latched onto the most important detail. “Is this about Eleanor? Is Max coming after us because of her?”

What Jessie really wanted to ask was whether Max was out for revenge because she hadn’t managed to hurt Eleanor. But she wouldn’t dare say that out loud, not even to Peter. Instead, she blamed everything on Eleanor.

“This is just too much. Peter, you have to talk to the Clarkson family. Someone needs to set things straight. If you won’t, maybe I’ll ask Katie?”

Peter’s face softened a little. “Go ahead, ask her. It might give us a chance to actually sit down and talk this out.”

There was no way Max had anything left to say to Peter. He had already blocked all of Peter’s calls and messages. Life was survival of the fittest. Jessie had made her choice when she targeted Max’s wife, and she should have known there would be consequences.

George let out a long sigh. “Max, maybe you went a little too far this time?”

Max didn’t even blink. “Dad, when Eleanor was in danger, when she almost died, do you think anyone stopped to wonder if they were being too harsh with her?”

George was silent for a moment. “Are you sure it was Peter’s wife behind it all?”

“I’m absolutely sure.”

George sighed again. “Alright, do what you want. Just make sure Hunter’s on board.”

Hunter always had Max’s back.

Eleanor walked over to Max, her nerves on edge. “Was that your dad on the phone? Did he say something about you?”

She had only just found out that the big project everyone was rushing to finish was actually a trap Max had set for Peter.

Max smiled at her, reassuring. “I told you, marrying me would give you some protection. You don’t need to worry.”

Eleanor studied Max, still unable to figure him out. Why had he married her so quickly? Why was he always so good to her? Sometimes she wondered if people this perfect really existed.

She took a breath and composed herself. “Thank you.”
