From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 348

"Switched at birth?"

The words hit Paola and Samuel like a punch to the gut.

"You mean... Jessie isn't my granddaughter? She's the nanny's daughter?" Paola's voice trembled. The idea made her head spin. For years, every ounce of love she'd had for her own daughter had gone straight to Jessie Goff. Now, out of nowhere, someone was telling her all of it might have been a mistake.

How could anyone accept something like that?

The mood in the private room turned heavy. Max suddenly waved down a waiter. "Could you bring some blood pressure meds and heart pills over, please?"

Samuel and Paola both stared at him, caught off guard.

"No need," Paola said, finding her composure. "I've got my own. Just tell us what you need to say."

Eleanor gave Max a sharp nudge in the back. "Quit it."

Max looked wounded. "I'm just worried about Paola. She might not be able to handle this."

"Anyway, I have all the test results. My assistant is bringing them now. There's no reason for me to fake any of this. My wife doesn't care about the Davidson family's money... Ow." Max flinched, changing his words as Eleanor pinched him again. "What I mean is, my wife has me. She doesn't need any new relatives. The reports are real, but if you don't trust them, you can always do another test."

"That's not necessary. I believe you!" Paola interrupted, her eyes brimming with emotion. She'd always felt something special about Eleanor. Now she realized what she thought was just a resemblance was actually family—real, flesh-and-blood family.

It was a strange feeling. It almost felt ridiculous, but at the same time, it just fit. There was shock, sure, but also a happiness that made perfect sense.

Paola reached over and took Eleanor's hand. "Sweetheart, you've been through so much."

Eleanor could barely hold back her tears. The truth was, both she and the Davidson family had been wronged. "Grandma," she whispered.

That single word went straight to Paola's heart.
