“Dad…” Kennedy’s voice was barely more than a whisper, his head drooping as exhaustion pressed down on him from the inside out.

“Go ahead and announce the bankruptcy tomorrow.” Otto sounded completely worn out, like the weight of everything had aged him overnight. “That’s just how business goes. You never really know who’s going to be the one to take you down.”

He paused, looking at both Kennedy and Adam. “Listen, I want you two to remember something. Making a friend is always better than making an enemy.”

Otto couldn’t help but blame himself. He’d been too short-sighted, letting his own kids push Eleanor so far away. Now, their families had reached a point where nothing could be fixed.

“The villas are yours. There was one in your mother’s name, so each of you gets one. That’s all I can give you now.”

For the first time, Adam felt a wave of guilt crash over him. Had he been too reckless? Was it his fault things turned out like this?

Kennedy gave his brother’s shoulder a squeeze. “Come on. Let’s give Dad some space.”

Suddenly, he looked up. “What about Horizon Collective? They’re still in business?”

The assistant hesitated. “Horizon Collective was supposed to go under with Goff Inc., but this morning another company invested in them. They’re now a wholly-owned subsidiary.”

“Find out everything you can about this overseas company.”

The assistant nodded, a bit uneasy. “Yes, we’re already looking into it. I’ll make sure to follow up.”

“If there’s nothing else, Mr. Clarkson, I’ll get going.”

“Hold on.” Max raised a hand, pulled a report from his drawer, and slid it across the desk. “Send this to Otto. Use a courier.”

The assistant picked up the document, glancing at the cover. He couldn’t help but be impressed. His boss knew exactly where to strike to make it hurt most.

With his tasks finished, the assistant turned to leave just as Hunter came in, grinning.
