From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 356

Autumn was always a step behind when it came to news. She wasn’t the type to scroll through headlines or watch TV updates. She only heard about everything over afternoon tea with her friends.

“Autumn, I can’t believe what happened in your family. It’s all anyone’s talking about,” one friend said, shaking her head.

Autumn blinked, confused. “Wait, what are you talking about? What happened? Why am I the last to know?”

Another friend slid her phone across the table. “Look, it’s all over the news. Jessie, from the Goff family, turns out she’s not really a Goff after all. They say she was switched at birth. Who could’ve seen that coming? Jessie always seemed so sweet, but apparently her biological mom is a piece of work.”

“Seriously, this story has everyone freaking out. Parents are watching their kids like hawks. Even our nanny keeps complaining, saying one bad apple ruined it for all of them.”

Autumn snatched up the phone, dug out her reading glasses, and read the article word by word. When she finished, she just sat there, stunned.

She’d always thought Jessie Goff was born with everything, the perfect little heiress. Now, she was just a stand-in, while Eleanor—the girl Autumn had never liked—was the real deal. And Peter had actually divorced Eleanor over this fake heiress. The thought twisted Autumn’s stomach, making her feel sick. She couldn’t even get the words out.

“I’m heading home. You all keep chatting,” Autumn mumbled, gathering her things and leaving in a daze.

“Autumn, wait. What’s going on? You can’t just go!” her friends called after her, but she was already out the door and sliding into her driver’s car, not hearing a word.

Back at home, she found Jessie Goff and couldn’t hold back. “Did you see the news?” she snapped.

Jessie looked down, voice barely above a whisper. “Yeah, I saw it.”

Autumn scoffed. “Your birth mother is something else. Swapping babies like that, what a talent. No wonder you turned out this way, stealing someone’s husband. I guess that blood really does run deep.”

Jessie’s eyes filled with tears. “Mom, I’m a victim too. It really hurts to hear you say that.”

Autumn just huffed. She glanced at Jessie’s belly and held her tongue, thinking about the baby growing inside. Still, the thought lingered. What if that bloodline, mixed with her own precious son’s, brought out the worst? The idea made her head pound.
