From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 43

It took a lot for Jessie to finally get Katie to meet up with her.

As soon as they sat down, Jessie’s eyes filled with tears.

“Katie, I swear, I’m not a homewrecker.” Her voice was so earnest that Katie couldn’t help but feel a little moved.

“Jessie, it’s not that I don’t believe you.”

Jessie sniffled, her words shaky. “You don’t know how terrible Peter’s wife is. Just because I’m a widow, she made it clear I wasn’t welcome in the house. When I went back to the family place, she just kept throwing me dirty looks. My mother-in-law and Peter stood up for me a couple of times, and suddenly she’s accusing me of having an affair with Peter.”

“She couldn’t get her way by running off, so now she’s dragging me through the mud online. Olga doesn’t like her, but honestly, it’s because she’s never been a decent mom. Olga’s only four. Kids that age just want to be around people who are kind to them. If Eleanor really cared about her daughter, would Olga like me more?”

Katie had never been a mom herself, but the logic made sense.

“Wait, what did you say Peter’s wife’s name was?”

Jessie’s expression changed. “Eleanor.”

“Hold on, Jessie, do you have a picture of her?”

Katie was thinking about the new researcher who started at her company yesterday. Her name was Eleanor, too.

Jessie noticed Katie’s serious look and started to get nervous. “Yeah, I do.”

She scrolled through her phone for a while before finding a solo shot of Eleanor. “This is her.”

Katie’s eyes narrowed. “Jessie, this woman started in our R&D department yesterday.”

Jessie stared at her, stunned. “What? Are you serious?”

“I think she’s always been bitter about it and blames me, like I somehow turned Peter against her. But if she just thought about it, she’d see there’s nothing in it for me. She’s just stubborn, and none of us can get through to her.”

Katie felt a flash of annoyance. “Jessie, I’ll look into it. Our R&D department isn’t somewhere you can just sneak into. If she’s not qualified, I’ll make sure she knows she doesn’t belong here.”

After their meal, Katie hurried straight to the R&D department to find Billy.

“Billy, just be real with me. Did Eleanor get in here because of you?”

Billy knew Katie was the boss’s daughter, but he couldn’t believe what she was suggesting.

“Ms. Clarkson, what are you saying? Eleanor went through the official hiring process. There’s no way she got in here through me.”

“Have you forgotten? The CEO’s made it clear no one is allowed to interfere with R&D hiring. Everything has to be done by the book.”
