From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 49

Peter arrived at the office with a stormy look on his face, barely able to process what his assistant was telling him.

“Let me see.”

Leon handed over the document. “Here you go, Mr. Clarkson.”

Peter’s fingers shook as he took it. His eyes went straight to the plaintiff’s name. Eleanor.

He felt his breath hitch. “Did you check with the lawyers? She’s still working for us…”

Leon looked genuinely surprised and cut in before he could stop himself. “Mr. Clarkson, your wife quit a while ago.”

“Her resignation… you approved it yourself.”

Peter’s eyes went cold and sharp. He gripped the summons tighter. “When did this happen?”

“It was… maybe ten days ago. Around then.”

Peter’s gaze was dark, almost dangerous.

So, she had resigned not long after moving out.

Great. He hadn’t expected Eleanor to pull something like this just to push him into chasing after her. “Leave.”

He waved Leon out and immediately tried calling her.

But her phone was still off.

He remembered how pale she’d looked when she left. The baby…

Was she alright?

Eleanor’s phone had died completely, and it took a good half hour of charging before she could finally turn it back on.

As soon as it powered up, notifications started pouring in.

There were messages from her mom, a few from Yolanda, and a ton of missed calls from Peter.

Buried in all the chaos, she noticed a text from her lawyer, Linden Sidler, about the court summons.

In other words, their odds just got a lot worse.

Linden. The name sounded familiar.

Peter’s face was tight. “He’s from the Sidler family, right?”

James Sidler had hosted the last charity gala. Was Linden his grandson?

“That’s right. Linden’s got two older brothers getting ready to take over the family business, but he’s the only one who went into law. People always joke that if Linden ever loses, he’ll just quit law and go home to inherit the family fortune.”

Peter’s eyes narrowed. “So, he’s expensive?”

“Not exactly. You can’t really hire Linden with money. He doesn’t need it. He only takes cases he finds interesting.”

How had Eleanor managed to get someone like that on her side?

Peter felt a sharp pang of regret. If only he’d taken her with him to Timber Creek, maybe none of this would have happened.

Ever since that trip, it seemed like everything at home was falling apart. He felt like he was drowning.
