From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 52

Or maybe, deep down, Peter was trying to quietly end things with Eleanor, hoping she would never find out.

Autumn dropped onto the bed, lost and shaken. Lisa glanced at the papers in Autumn’s hand. “Ma’am, are you alright?”

Autumn jerked the paper out of sight. “Just go. And you’re not to mention this letter to anyone, understand?”

Her thoughts were spinning. Whatever was going on between her son and Eleanor, she had to bring Eleanor back. As long as Eleanor came home, things would return to normal. Even if her son still had feelings for Jessie, he would at least have to show some respect for Eleanor. Besides, Eleanor was carrying the Clarkson family’s grandchild.

With that in mind, Autumn dialed Eleanor’s number.

Eleanor’s finger slipped, and she accidentally answered. She braced herself for Autumn’s usual sharp words, but instead, Autumn sounded almost gentle. “Eleanor, where are you? I want to talk.”

“Talk about what?” Eleanor let out a cold laugh. “I don’t think we have anything to discuss.”

Autumn tried to keep her voice steady. “I saw the divorce agreement on Peter’s nightstand. Eleanor, divorce isn’t a small thing. Don’t you think we should at least sit down and talk? You’re still carrying the Clarkson family’s baby, after all.”

Eleanor glanced at the clock. “I’m at work. If you want to talk, come find me after I get off. I’ll send you the location.”

After she hung up, Eleanor let out a dry laugh. So Peter had seen the divorce papers all along, but he’d just acted like he hadn’t.

Autumn waited in a coffee shop, feeling out of place. She’d never had to wait for someone before.

Eleanor arrived and sat down across from her.

“The elevator was packed after work. Sorry I’m late.”

Autumn reminded herself to stay calm. “Why did you ask me to meet you here? Did Peter get you a new office?”

Eleanor’s eyes softened for just a second. “I quit. This place is close to my new job.”

Her calmness made Autumn feel even more unsettled. “Eleanor, don’t you care about all the years you spent with Peter?”

Eleanor’s smile was faint. “Have you ever been in Peter’s study?”

“There’s a storage room in there, locked with a code. The password is Jessie’s birthday.”

“Go take a look. Then you’ll understand why I’m so determined to leave.”

Autumn’s chest tightened. “Eleanor, maybe you’re misunderstanding something.”

Eleanor met her gaze, almost pitying. She could tell Autumn had probably noticed something too but just didn’t want to admit it.

“I’m not misunderstanding anything. I was just blind, that’s all.”

Eleanor stood up. “But I won’t be blind anymore.”
