From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 71

Eleanor asked about the price, and right away the sales associate lit up. “We’re running a special today. If you buy one, you can get the second for half price. The discount is for the cheaper one, though. Want to take two?”

She thought for a second, then nodded. “Sure, I’ll take both.”

When the weekend rolled around, Eleanor called a rideshare and headed over to Tim’s house.

As soon as she stepped out of the car, she spotted a familiar license plate. Her eyes widened in surprise.

A pair of shiny leather shoes hit the pavement first, then a pair of perfectly tailored pants that showed off long, lean legs.

Eleanor’s gaze drifted upward, taking in the man’s long neck and the sharp, defined lines of his throat. She watched his Adam’s apple move as he swallowed.

Max slipped his hands into his pockets and glanced down, meeting her eyes. His lips curled into a little smirk. “What are the odds? Ms. Rolland, did you bribe my assistant to find out my plans?”

Eleanor’s cheeks flushed. She was embarrassed and a little annoyed. “Mr. Clarkson, I did not.”

“I’m here to see my professor, that’s all,” she shot back, thinking this guy really was full of himself.

She hurried past him and rang the doorbell. “Tim!”

Tim opened the door, his smile warm. “Eleanor, you made it.”

Laura, Tim’s wife, poked her head out from behind him. It had been ages since she’d seen Eleanor, but she remembered Tim always saying Eleanor was his favorite student. “Come in, Eleanor, don’t just stand there. Make yourself at home.”

Eleanor handed over a gift, smiling. “Tim, I brought you a couple of ties. See if you like them.”

Tim gave her a look. “Who told you to bring gifts? Really. I’ll take one, but the other you’re returning. No need to waste your money.”

Eleanor couldn’t help but laugh. “Tim, I can’t just return it.”

“Tim, invite them inside,” Laura called. “No need to crowd the doorway.”

Tim led everyone into the living room. “Have a seat.”

Eleanor pulled out the two ties. “Tim, take a look and pick the one you like best.”

Tim didn’t hesitate, picking the brighter one right away.

“Return the dark blue one.”

Eleanor grinned. Older folks really did love bright colors. “Alright.”

“Returning it sounds like a hassle,” Max said suddenly. “How much was it? If you don’t mind, Ms. Rolland, would you sell it to me?”
