From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 70

Mr. Urban looked at Peter with pure frustration. “You two… seriously!” He didn’t waste another second, hurrying out after the professor.

Jessie’s eyes filled with tears. “Peter, that old man went way too far. How could he call me the other woman?”

“You fell for me first, Jessie. If anyone’s the other woman here, it’s Eleanor.”

It stung. The person who isn’t loved is the third wheel. Why did everyone act like she was the problem?

Peter was annoyed too. He wished he had never brought Jessie along. “Jessie, why would you say something like that?”

“I’m married to Eleanor. There’s no divorce happening. Everyone knows I’m married,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady. People from the older generation cared so much about appearances. Even if you did something wrong, at least you were supposed to keep it private. But Jessie had just announced to the university president that she was his girlfriend, and she hadn’t even tried to hide her real identity.

Jessie’s voice cracked. “So you’re not getting divorced. Then what am I supposed to be?”

Peter pressed his lips together. He couldn’t give her the answer she wanted. After his mother’s warning, he’d managed to pull himself together, at least a little. He could keep treating Jessie well, but he would never leave Eleanor. No matter how upset Eleanor got, she would always be his wife. The title of Mrs. Clarkson belonged to her and no one else.

He thought Jessie understood that. “Jessie, you know I’m not going to divorce Eleanor, right?”

Tears slipped down Jessie’s cheeks. She bit her lip, still fighting for hope. “What if Eleanor wants to divorce you?”

Peter’s expression turned cold. He stepped closer and grabbed her wrist. “Did she say she wanted a divorce?”

Jessie tried to pull away, watching a red mark appear on her pale skin. “Peter, you’re hurting me.”

He let go right away and realized he’d lost control. “Sorry.”

Eleanor had no idea that Dr. Bates had already stood up for her. After work, she got a call from Tim.

“Are you free this weekend?” His voice was as blunt as always. “My wife’s cooking and wants you to come over for dinner.”

Eleanor smiled. “That sounds great. Thanks, Tim. I’ll be there on time.”

After she hung up, she hopped in a taxi and went straight to the mall. Last time she met Tim, she hadn’t had time to prepare a gift. She figured today was her chance to pick out something nice.

At the counter, a bright-colored tie caught her eye. She turned to the saleswoman. “Hi, do you think this color is too bold for an older gentleman?”

The saleswoman smiled warmly. “Not at all. A lot of older men love brighter colors to brighten up their look. If you’re not sure, you could get two. One vibrant for parties, and a classic one for everyday or more serious occasions.”
