From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 99

Marleigh’s eyes went wide. “Max, are you saying they’re from that side of the family?”

Max nodded. “Katie was the one who introduced them, though.”

Katie’s mouth opened, but when she caught her father’s glare, she ducked behind her mom. She hadn’t meant for any of this to happen. Now she couldn’t help but throw Jessie a betrayed look. Some best friend she turned out to be.

Right then, Peter’s butler came rushing in, clearly flustered. He’d been calling Peter with no luck and knew he couldn’t hold off any longer. It had taken a lot of pleading with staff just to get inside.

He hurried over to Peter, still clueless about the tension in the room. “Sir, you really need to see this. I tried calling you, but you didn’t answer. It’s from the court. Seems urgent.”

Peter, already overwhelmed, snapped. “What is it? Can’t this wait until we’re home?”

Everyone watched as the man who’d been acting so meek a moment ago turned on his own staff, his face dark and angry. It was like seeing a completely different person.

The butler lowered his voice, but everyone nearby was listening so closely that every word was crystal clear.

“It’s a summons from Ms. Eleanor. She’s filing for divorce.”

The room fell silent. For a moment, it felt less like a birthday party and more like the hottest gossip in town.

She already knew that by morning, everyone in their circle would be talking about it. Word would get around that the main branch of the Clarkson family wanted nothing to do with them, and Horizon Collective’s stock might take another hit. They’d tried to win favor and only ended up digging themselves in deeper.

Peter turned on his daughter. “Olga, who taught you to speak like that?” He lifted his hand, ready to strike her, but pulled back at the last second. Autumn quickly stepped in front of Olga, who was already sobbing.

“Daddy, you’re so mean! You were going to hit me!” Olga cried. She didn’t feel guilty, just hurt and wronged.

“Peter, calm down,” Autumn said, trying to steady him.

He could only roar in frustration. “How am I supposed to calm down?”
