“Mr. Bragg, I’m at Ms. Lynn’s doorstep right now,” Usher replied quickly.
He was holding a fruit basket, just about to knock, when he saw Cormac approaching.
“Usher? What are you doing here?” Cormac asked, looking confused. “Doesn’t this guy have a girlfriend?” he thought. “Is he trying to play the field?”
“Mr. Hume, hello!” Usher said, surprised to run into him. On a weekend, shouldn’t Cormac be with Rhoslyn? And he was carrying two large bags full of toys.
Sensing Cormac’s displeasure, Usher quickly explained, “I heard Ms. Lynn has quadruplets, so I just wanted to come and see them!”
He didn’t know the full story between Cormac and Niamh, but it was obvious Cormac had feelings for her. It seemed like the relationship between Niamh, Rhoslyn, and Cormac was a complicated love triangle. “Is Mr. Hume really trying to date both sisters?”
“Well, let’s go in together then,” Cormac suggested.
“Sure, great!” Usher replied, feigning enthusiasm.
Just then, Cassian and Lyric returned from grocery shopping. When Cassian saw Cormac, his face fell, the smile disappearing instantly. Ever since Cormac had broken Niamh’s heart, he had lost all respect for the man. Cormac had been dating Rhoslyn for five years without proposing, and just a few days ago, Rhoslyn had been crying at home, saying Cormac had broken up with her. It seemed he had dumped Rhoslyn and was now trying to win Niamh back.
“That bastard. He’s ruined both my daughters.”
Before he could finish, Cassian’s anger flared. “Cormac! Are you not listening to me? Niamh and I do not want you here! Get out!”
Usher stood by silently. From what he could see, Cassian seemed like a decent, honest man. To see him this angry, Cormac must have done something terrible.
“Cassian, I really don’t have any other intentions. I just want to see Niamh and her children.”
“Niamh has a boyfriend,” Cassian said bluntly. “There’s no need for you to see her. Now leave. If you don’t, I’ll have to call the police.”
Only then did Cassian seem to notice Usher. “And who are you?” he asked.
