No one was going to touch Niamh. Not unless she decided to leave on her own.
Just then, William spoke up. “Mr. Bragg, is this young lady your company’s cleaning woman?”
Jareth, who didn’t understand a word of German, could only shrug in confusion.
The interpreter Cormac had hired had canceled at the last minute, so he and William hadn’t been able to communicate much on the way over.
He was genuinely shocked to hear Niamh speaking such fluent German. Watching her converse so easily with William left him stunned.
“Niamh, could you translate for Mr. Bragg?” Cormac prompted.
He knew about her language skills. Five years ago, she had been diligently studying German, Japanese, and French. Besides her dream of becoming a designer, she had always wanted to learn multiple languages and travel the world. Her fluency didn't surprise him at all.
Rhoslyn shot Cormac a venomous glare.
So eager to jump to her rescue, huh?
Seeing Niamh chat effortlessly in German made Rhoslyn want to march over and slap her. She had never imagined the girl had this hidden talent.
“Niamh? Can you translate?” Cormac repeated gently, noticing her startled expression. He felt a pang of sympathy for her.
Niamh snapped back to reality. She looked uncertainly from Cormac to Jareth. “Mr. William is asking if I’m the company’s cleaning lady,” she translated.
“Why wouldn’t he?” Cormac cut in. “Niamh started learning German her freshman year of college. Mr. Bragg, not only is she fluent in German, but she also speaks Japanese and French. To have her working as a cleaner is a real waste of her talents.”
Jareth’s mood soured as he listened to Cormac’s enthusiastic defense of Niamh.
He’s just an ex-boyfriend. Why is he trying so hard? Is he hoping to get back together with her?
Ignoring Cormac, Jareth addressed William directly. “Yes, Mr. William, every employee at our company is exceptionally talented. Why don’t we continue this conversation inside?”
He then glanced at Niamh, signaling for her to translate.
She did so without delay.
