I Owe the Tyrant Four Little Heirs novel Chapter 54

Once she finished, Jareth said dismissively, “That’s all, Niamh. You can go. We have business to discuss.”

His tone was clipped. Despite her impressive performance, he felt an inexplicable irritation.

Niamh quickly stepped aside, waiting for the group to enter the conference room before she picked up her bucket and mop and left.

No sooner had everyone taken their seats than the manager, Carmen, rushed in, looking flustered. “I’m so sorry, Mr. Bragg,” she whispered urgently. “The simultaneous interpretation system is down.”

“We called the IT department, but they said they can’t fix it. It has to be sent back to the manufacturer.”

“Then send it,” Jareth snapped.

“But we need it right now,” the manager stammered. “There’s no time to get it repaired.”

Jareth’s face hardened into a mask of ice. “So, you’re telling me that not only do we have no interpreter today, but our equipment is also broken?”

“Y-yes,” Carmen stuttered, terrified by his thunderous expression.

“Then how, exactly, are we supposed to communicate with our clients?” Jareth demanded, his voice dangerously low.

The manager hung her head. “I… I don’t know.”

Jareth’s knuckles turned white as he gripped the arms of his wheelchair. If the room weren't full of German clients, he would have unleashed his full fury.

After a tense moment of silence, he asked, “We have over a hundred employees in this company. Is there really no one who speaks German?”

Carmen shook her head miserably.

At that moment, Cormac stood up. “Mr. Bragg, Niamh speaks German, doesn’t she?”

“Give me the money first,” Niamh said after a moment.

She had learned her lesson the hard way and wasn't about to get tricked again. From now on, if anyone wanted her to buy something, they would have to pay upfront. She was already broke; she couldn’t afford to be cheated out of more money.

Rhoslyn gritted her teeth. “Just go buy it. I’ll pay you back when you get here. The client is waiting.”

“No,” Niamh said firmly. “You have to give me the money first.”

Besides, she didn't believe Rhoslyn’s story for a second. They had already provided bottled mineral water for the clients; why would they suddenly demand sparkling water?

Rhoslyn seethed at Niamh’s stubbornness.

It was the same when they were kids. Once Niamh made up her mind about something, she would stick to it, even if Rhoslyn’s mother beat her for it.
