Angel Ronan’s Pov
Princess Andria sits stiffly between me and Tiras and barely appears interested in the delicious foods in front of her. She has worn her makeup. But I can trace lines of what looks like scars underneath her layers of makeup. She wears it like a pretty mask, so thick that it is extremely hard even for our eyes to guess what her real face looks like.
I hope she can keep it hidden forever, because that we can love her honestly and not just because of her gift.
“You can relax. We loved you not just because of your beauty but your kindness and talent as well. You’re still a thousand times more worthy of our love than our mate was,” Tiras comforts and she lets out a deep sigh of relief.
Her graceful smile returns to her face. “I am glad you’re so wise, your majesties. I have always desired a mate who would love me for more than just my beauty. I promise to be the best queen if you marry me,” she says in a humble tone.
“We sent your father the tribute. Of course we will marry you. It is in fact the matter we wanted to discuss during this meal,” Tiras informs. “Since our human mate is probably still alive we shall transfer the mate bond to you. Our marriage will be stronger with a connection,” he adds.
The Princess surprisingly shakes her head. “I am sorry to confess that I have changed my mind in the matter of being granted the bond you have with your mate. If your love for me is real then I do not need it,” she says.
Ugly or not, she has such grace of mind. She would make a reputable queen indeed. Faces aren’t everything. We can use ours.
“I have overwhelming fear that you will take back the mate bond when you realise that it is your true mate who you love. Then I will be disgraced for taking it from her in the first place,” the princess says in a sad tone.
“Dear, only a mad person would want that shameless human. We are planning our wedding and you will forever be our queen. How can anything be taken from you?” I argue.
“Marriage is just a bunch of promises that you can brake when your hearts desires another. I must demand that you reject your mate because the bond will always pull you to her,” she demands. 1
“That’s totally fine if it’s what will ease your worries. We shall summon our mate as soon as our assistant confirms that she is well enough to accept our rejection,” I answer.
The Princess doesn’t seem satisfied though. She still wears a dejected face.
“I want you to reject her on our wedding day, with guests from every kingdom watching. I would like you to swear in front of everyone that you will never want her again. That way I can be assured that I will be your only queen forever,” she demands.
“You’re looking much better. How is the neck?” he asks.
“Ira is fine. I have been taking great care of her,” Linda answers on my behalf.
“Thank you. But I would prefer Ira to answer me herself,” he says.
She is taken aback by his curt reply but smiles anyways. “I will warm the food for us,” she offers before leaving the room. “My neck only feels a little sore. I can turn it all around now,” I answer his question and he smiles.
“Forgive me for forgetting to ask, do you have a family you would like to reach out to and let them know that you’re well?” he asks.
“My missing father is all the family I have. I came to the palace to sing and get money to keep searching for him,” I answer. He reaches out and takes my hand in his in a comforting gesture. “I will help you in every way I can,” he swears.
