Angel Tiras’s Pov
We watch from from one of the palace’s high balconies as our future queen feeds a group of human beggars outside of our palace gates with breads she baked herself. Strangers halt to watch her and her servants with administration. She is succeeding in becoming a reputable queen even before our marriage.
“She is even more virtuous than our dead mother. Her inner beauty is a treasure more precious than gold,” Ronen says proudly.
Adon doesn’t look as impressed as he faces away. Surely her face cannot be as bad as he claimed it is.
I am honestly skeptical of her behavior as it appears too good to be true. What other royals spend hours baking with their own hands just to feed beggars? She may be kind, but they s act was meant for our eyes. I must however keep my doubts to myself as I do not wish to make my brothers regard her with less admiration than they already do.
I notice Lior walking towards the front entrance of the palace from the training grounds. It’s strange to see a smile on his face even as he walks alone. By now we had imagined that he would be begging us to take back our human mate and execute her. But I can almost see joy radiating off him.
Guess I will be the one to ruin his good moods because I must ask him to bring the human here on the day of our wedding so we can reject her as Princess Andria asked. I do not need to make my way to him as he always brings us a report on the status of our army, servants and subjects everyday. So he will be showing up here anytime.
Usually he is the first person to notice and approve of impressive characters among the residents of the palace. It puzzles me why he seems blind towards Princess Andria’s act’s of kindness.
“Good morning, your majesties,” his voice finally comes from behind us and we turn. “Since Princess Andria’s arrival we have had forty percent increase in young men seeking to become knights of this kingdom. I am selecting the ones who are fit to serve,” he reports.
Sounds like Princess Andria’s presence here has stirred a sense of loyalty and courage among our people already. Before there was barely anyone with a desire to join our great army as the fear of being killed by dragons was overwhelming. But with a queen who can control them our people must be feeling confident in our future victories.
“That is good news indeed. It’s been a while since our people had such faith in us,” Ronen says.
“No one would be so proud if they saw her real face. It’s a sacrifice we made,” Adon says.
“What’s wrong with her face?” our assistant asks.
“Nothing. Adon just has a tendency to overrate the importance of physical beauty. Ignore him,” I reply because lack of natural physical beauty is not a flaw that anyone should be ashamed of. Princess Andria is beyond perfect as she is. Though I haven’t seen her real face yet.
“How is the human?” I ask our assistant.
“She is getting better,” he answers in an anxious tone.
He does not seem eager to speak about the subject. But I must demand that he bring her here on the day of our wedding with Princess Andria.
“Walk with me,” I request.
I leave my brothers and lead us back into the hallways of the palace.
“Princess Andria has demanded that we reject our mate before she becomes our queen. So I must demand that you bring the human on the day of our wedding. It is important to Princess Andria that everyone gets to know that we are committed to her alone,” I inform.
“She ripped her own necklace and faked the tears,” Lior answers.
A wave of shock grips my mind. Princess Andria would have to be evil to do such a thing. She literally watched as the human got whipped almost to death. Surely she cannot be the envious one despite all the power and grace she possesses.
“Then why didn’t you tell us the truth?” I ask Lior.
“I was sure that you wouldn’t believe me if Princess Andria would stand by her lie,” he answers.
“Right. We do however expect you to tell us the truth nevertheless. It is not your job to decide what we should know,” I state. He nods in understanding.
Who would have thought that Princess Andria wanted to be our queen so badly? Such a wicked, desperate lie just to get rid of our human mate whom we already hated in the first place. She feels insecure. Probably because of the physical beauty she think she lacks. Why can’t she understand that her gift is more than enough to earn our love and admiration? It’s nice to know that she wants us too though.
“Do not fail to bring the human when we ask you to,” I order our assistant. “Princess Andria remains our best queen regardless of whether she lied about the attack or not.”
“Yes your majesty,” he agrees.
“Also do not let my brothers know that Princess Andria wasn’t attacked. I do not want Adon to have another petty reason to despise her,” I add.
