Ira’s Pov
I can finally stand on my feet and it feels amazing. Like I have been given another chance at life. Lior smiles sweetly as he hands me a glass full of herb which I have to take to ensure that the wounds on my back does not get infected.
“You’re getting well fast. I am really proud,” Lior commends but there is a hint of worry in his voice.
He has been surprisingly very patient with my slow recovery. It’s like he understands how difficult it is to be human. My mates, the angels, hated me even when I was perfectly healthy.
“You sound a little sad. Did the angel kings add you more duties now that they do not pay you?” I ask.
I feel guilty for the loss of his earnings. He sacrificed his salary, made himself a free servant for life just to save my life. I will figure out ways to repay him.
“It is you who I am worried about. Your mates wants you to attend their wedding, so that they can reject you in front of everyone, make their chosen queen feel assured that they will never want you again,” he informs.
Shock almost makes me fall down again. I have to stand firm and still for a long moment to allow the nauseating news to sink in slowly. What did I ever do to deserve such hateful and wicked mates. I never desired them. If I had known I would never have walked through the gates of their palace. The nightmare of being their mate doesn’t seem to end.
“I should leave this kingdom. I should leave at night and never come back,” I say the first thing that comes to mind after the shock subsides. “I might after all find my father if I travel farther than the borders of this kingdom,” I add.
Lior shakes his head. “That’s is not the best idea, my dear. You’re not in the best state to run away and they will kill you if you get caught,” he says.
Lior scoffs. “The angel kings doesn’t care about the truth. I did tell them that Ira didn’t attack Princess Andria and none of them looked rueful. They in fact said it doesn’t matter. So do not waste your breath. You might as well be executed for blackmailing their future queen,” he says.
Linda falls silent. I am appalled as well. A part of me thought that they would hate Princess Andria if they learned that she falsely accused me of attacking her. But it sounds like they do not care as long as they marry her.
Lior is right. I should just accept their rejection on the day of their wedding so that my life can move on. I can go anywhere without any fears as soon as the mate bond ends. I shall freely ride across all lands in search of my father.
“I shall bear the shame of attending their wedding and accepting their rejection in front of everyone,” I finally accept.
