I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 21

Angel Adon’s Pov

We did not just pay a fortune for an ugly girl, but a pretentious, shameless liar as well. What was she thinking? That the rogue dragons would never attack again? It’s embarassing to know that we fell for every one of her tricks, including rejecting and humiliating our human mate in a hall full of guests. She was a useless human, but I would not have done it if I wasn’t convinced that our Queen could control dragons.

If I were to choose between the two now I would prefer a feisty, wise human than a pretentious, ugly princess. Andria’s lies made us feel on top of the world, but we are now worse than ever before.

I should have known from the moment I noticed her unexpected desire to marry us. Then after the marriage she made every effort to be admired for other things apart from her gift of controlling dragons. Which she knew she didn’t have.

“If she does not have the power to control dragons, why did they leave at her command last time,” Ronen asks.

“She said that it is not her voice that we heard. Which makes sense because she seemed briefly surprised when we congratulated her,” Tiras answers.

“Doesn’t that mean that she knows who actually commanded the dragons?” I ask.

“She does. But she seemed unwilling to tell,” Tiras answers. “I should have told you that she also lied about our human mate attacking her. Lior told me that she tore her own dress,” he adds in a rueful tone.

“What?! How is it that… you would hide such a thing from us?” I exclaim.

Did I just stutter? That’s extremely embarassing. It has never happened before. I am supposed to be the most graceful of us all. But this situation is overwhelming even for me. The human would have been executed if it wasn’t for Lior and our shame would be a lot more.

“I didn’t want you to despise her more after you saw her face. Now I wish I had,” Tiras answers.

“If she knows whose voice controlled the dragons that day we must torture her until she reveals. It will be my pleasure to break her legs,” Ronen suggests.

Tiras appears thoughtful for a long time. I hope he isn’t about to call Ronen’s idea unwise.

“What if it is someone who hates us?” he asks.

“You sound like you know who it is,” I say.

“I have a guess and you will not like it,” he replies.

“Just tell us,” I say impatiently.

“That day our queen cowered back at the sight of the dragons, until someone commanded the to leave. Do you remember who was close to her when we thanked her for saving our Kingdom?”

“Yes. Lior and that human,” Ronen answers and Tiras carries on.

“When we got back into the palace our queen was afraid that we would later find out who really commanded the dragons. So she demanded to meet our human mate alone, so she could accuse her of assault and we would kill the human. But she wasn’t the only one lying. Because Lior chose to save the human and keep her for himself instead of telling the truth,” he says.

“What truth?” I ask.

“That the human was the one who commanded the dragons,” Tiras answers.

“Wait… did you say that the angel kings ordered their Queen to be tortured?” I laugh because he must be joking.

“Yes Ira. They figured out that she was lying and has nothing to offer them,” Lior answers.

“But… you said that they do not care about the truth,” I remind.

He only shakes his head. “We must not waste time.”

Linda jumps up. “I will pack your bag and mine,” she tells him.

“Why would you come, Linda? I already paid you for treating Ira,” he replies with a hint of annoyance.

It’s really embarrassing to love someone so much. I like Lior too. He is the only man apart from my father who has ever helped me. But I have learned to control my feelings so that I do not embarrass myself more than my mates embarassed me. “You do not want me to come? Because she is the only one with the gift and I am the loser who loves you?” Linda screams. “I do not have time to argue with you. The angel kings will be here any minute,” Lior says before dragging me towards the sleeping quarters.

I understand that he has no use for Linda. But I wish she can come to whichever cave we are running to. I however do not want to upset Lior by demanding that. He is currently my only savior.

“Pack only a few basics,” he advises.

I pack the few clothes he bought me and the cash he brought me after claiming the payment for my performance.
