Angel Ronen’s Pov
“Your majesties, my name is Linda Rothnia, a skilled doctor. I have come to help in the search of your former human mate and your gorgeous assistant, Lior,” the young woman says.
Lior’s last name is Rothnia and it’s not a common name. So why would a woman with his last name be offering us help in finding him?
“Are you Lior’s sister or wife?” I ask even though I know well that our assistant is not married.
“I have great hope that Lior will marry me some day. So I have taken his last name in advance,” she answers. 1
I should be surprised by her answer. But her’s isn’t the most insane thing I have heard today. I wonder if our mate will love us just as much some day.
“So how do you intend to help us?” I ask.
“I know everything about Lior. I know all he likes and all his close and distant friends. I know where he is going and where he will stop on the way,” she answers.
She really should be his wife. She already knows more than a mate could.
“Why are you here if you love our assistant so much?” I question.
“Because I do not want him to leave, your majesties. I need him here so we can have a blissful life together,” she answers. “I will let you where to find him and your former human mate if you promise that he will not be harmed or imprisoned. That he will still have his job and all his earnings since you will be taking back Ira,” she demands.
“We are your kings. You should be demanding a hefty reward that can improve your commoner’s life,” Adon advises.
The lady shakes her head. “I know exactly what I desire, your majesties. I understand that you want Ira back because she can control dragons and save your kingdom. But my love for Lior is real. I prefer his safely over any amount of wealth,” she says. Why does that make me feel ashamed? It is true that we didn’t love Ira the first time for just being our mate. We only realised that we should have loved her after learning the truth about who truly has the power to control dragons.
There is no doubt that people will think that her gift is the only reason we are getting her back. I do not blame them as that is how it seems. And I am afraid that Ira will think the same. She will feel unloved no matter how hard we will try to please her. I wish she had a gift to read people’s thoughts. Because that’s the only way she can know that I would give up anything for a chance to love her again. With or without the gift of controlling dragons.
We despised her for being a human and a commoner. Yet her mind was wiser and her heart was kinder than that of the noble queen we married.
“I will order the soldiers to torture the information out of her. We cannot do a thing she has asked,” Tiras whispers his decision.
“No Tiras. We should consider doing the right thing this time. Look where being arrogant got us,” I disagree. “We do not have to punish Lior right now. It will upset Ira as well. She will feel safer to stay here if we keep him around for a little while.”
“We are capable of making our mate feel safe without Lior’s help,” Adon says, pushing back his hair with his fingers. “But I agree that we do not have to punish him. It would be a disgrace if people starts to think we are envious of him since he saved our mate.”
Right, we will keep him away from her while we win her back.
“You have our word that your future husband will not be harmed or imprisoned,” Tiras tells the young woman. “Now tell us where he is taking Ira before it’s too late.”

He opens a door and leads us into a crammed room with a very old bed at the centre.
“This is all I have. You understand I do not have many guests,” he says.
“Understand. Thank you,” Lior says and his friend leaves.

Lior’s hand holds me tight against his chest as we lay on his friend’s old bed. It is hard to breathe inside his tight hold. But it feels safe. Not even I can escape without waking him.
The only reason I was able to fall asleep is that I was beyond tired and heavily grateful for a chance to lay down. Now that I have rested I am starting to sense the different odours of the old branket and hear the creaking of the bed as Lior shifts slightly beside me.
His eyes fly open suddenly as if he has been startled by something I cannot see.
“We need to get out of here now! Someone is coming!” he gasps while seeking to be listening to some sounds that my human ears are not capable of perceiving.
“Your mates!… The angel kings are here!”
He jumps off the bed and pulls me with him.
