IRA’S POV
I do not get time to pick up my bag as Lior pulls me towards the door.
“We shouldn’t have rested before getting to the border,” he mutters in an anxious voice as we rush out of the house.
He assured me that no one would find us here or know the path we took. So why are we running like thieves this early? I am afraid that we will starve on the way since he left our bag of food and I will never find my father.
We burst through the wooden door and I immediately corride with a hard chest dressed in silk. I lose my footing and start to fall backwards. Someone catches me and pulls me back to my feet. I look up and my entire body freezes.
Angel Adon?!
I am beyond appalled. Yet it’s hard to miss how elegantly his hair is styled or the conspicuous shirt that he wears. It is missing a shoulder.
“Hello dear…. we have been looking -“
I jump back and away from his grasp. That’s when I notice that we are surrounded by their soldiers. And his brother, Ronen, is right beside him, holding Lior by the collar of his coat.
Linda stands behind them all, looking extremely worried and rueful. Did she betray us?
I am too shocked to speak. Despite all the efforts that Lior made to help me get away, we got caught!
King Adon says something while still watching me. But my mind cannot process a word. It’s like it has turned into a stone. It takes several seconds of absolute dumbness before it comes back to life.
“Where were you taking her?” King Ronen demands while glaring at Lior.
This is where they accuse him of being a traitor and execute him. The man who saved my life and looked after me like a father. I cannot let it happen.
“It was me!” I boldly say.
I know they will drain my blood until I am dead. So why not take responsibility for all crimes and save Lior?
“I am…the one who demanded that he take me to the border so I can leave your kingdom. He was going to return once we got there,” I add.
Neither of my two former mates seems to believe me. But King Ronen does let go of Lior for some reason, pushing him away like a dog. Linda runs to hug him but he pushes her away. No one else could have guided the angel kings here except her. She loves Lior, but what she has done will make him loathe her forever.
Angel adon gestures at their entourage to step back. Guess there are things they do not want their loyal subjects to know. Like the fact that I am the one with the gift of controlling dragons.
“There is no need for you to run. We no longer wish you harm. In fact we will be taking you back to the palace where you will be safe,” Angel Adon says in a sweet tone.
He has overestimated his charm. Or is it my stupidity he thinks he can manipulate?
Of course they were not giving me a choice. I am just a human with blood more precious than my life. But they also underestimated my madness. Because everyone will know what they seek here and they will forever be known as the evil kings who killed a Levitt in order to use her blood to tame dragons.
I look at their huge escort and stupidly wave at the soldiers to get their attention. Lior stands with them, a worried expression on his face. The soldiers surprisingly wave back, looking both confused and amused. I think they are quite ready to hear my last words.
“My name is Ira Levitt! I have the blood that controls all dragons! Your evil kings wants to drain it to give their Queen the power to-” I shout out loud but doesn’t get time to finish as King Ronen steps forward and covers my mouth.
“We already told you that no one is interested in draining your blood. You’re making this situation more chaotic than it needs to be,” he says before removing his hand from my mouth. But the other still holds my arm firmly.
“Even a child wouldn’t believe your lies,” I snort.
“I do not expect you to trust us again this soon. But we cannot let you leave. Your friend Lior will not be punished if you come back with us,” he says.
“What?”
“He chose to hide every truth from us so he can keep you. He is a traitor and will be punished by death. Unless you choose to come back. Then we can forgive his transgressions,” the angel explains.
