Ira’s Pov
I was expecting to wake beside my father in the world of the dead, but I am lying on a doctor’s bed, surrounded by the four people I hate the most. Just the sight of them makes me wish I had died.
“See, it was just a brief insensitivity caused by shock, your majesties. She is totally fine,” Linda announces like that isn’t obvious.
King Ronen reaches out a hand to feel my forehead and I furiously slap it away. I have nothing left to lose, so they can go ahead and kill me. Finding my father was the only goal I had and now he is gone. There is nothing left to protect.
“You may think that you have lost everything but we are here. We will love you just as much as your father did,” King Ronen comforts in his charming voice.
I bet that their only regret is that they can no longer have my father’s blood too. When will they realise that I am not stupid? King Tiras steps closer and stares down at me. “We can also give you revenge against those that killed your father,” his hands grabs me by the sides and lifts me out of the bed. “Come.”
I am not sure whether to fight him too. I do want revenge more than my next breath. But would they harm their beloved queen or her father to please me? Of course not.
So where is he dragging me to? Was I unconscious long enough for their witch to arrive? Of course not. They would have torn me apart already. It’s not like they need my approval.
The other two kings and Linda follow behind as King Tiras leads the way out of the main palace and towards the servant quarter’s with a tight grip on my arm. I have lost all desire to live and do not really care where they take me. There queen doesn’t live in the servant quarters. I am however certain that it isn’t their witch we are going to meet since they wouldn’t be acting so gentle.
“You may go. She seems fine,” King Adon dismisses Linda before we get to the main entrance. She turns back with a disappointed look.
I am left alone with my mighty ex-mates, but Linda’s presence was even more annoying than theirs. I never trusted them, but I did trust her and she betrayed me. I hate her even more.
I am surprised when we enter the servant quarters and start heading towards the basement. That’s where the Palace prison is. They are going to lock me up?
“I can assure you that it is only our wicked queen we are taking you to see. We had her locked up with other criminals after her confession,” Angel Ronen reveals as we take the stairs heading down.
They imprisoned her? The most beautiful and graceful queen whom they paid a fortune to have? I would have to see it to believe.
The basement smells of dust, cells look cold, with nothing on the floor to sleep on. Each cell has long silver chains hanging from the ceiling. Of course werewolves have to be kept from shifting using silver.
A prison guard comes running upon noticing us. He bows deeply before the kings. “Your majesties, we were not notified of your visit-“
“Where is she?” King Tiras cuts him short.
“This way.”
The guards leads the way down a long corridor bordered with cells. There are only a few prisoners whose condition is scary.
Their uncut hairs and unwashed bodies making them look like they were dead then unburied. But none prepares me for the appalling sight of a nearly naked woman whose bare toes are barely touching the floor as she hangs from the silver chain connected to the ceiling by her deeply bruised neck.
“A… human commoner… is a disgrace. You… could keep me… and use her blood to… control dragons,” she stutters while sobbing.
I thought she regrets her mistakes? Or does she not consider her wickedness an issue? The angel kings doesn’t mind it of course. But they now know that she cannot control dragons. That’s why she is here.
“Your face is the real disgrace we should have never overlooked. Tomorrow everyone will get to see it while our soldiers cut off your head,” King Tiras responds with a smirk.
So they always knew that her beauty was fake yet kept calling me as the ugly human? Was controlling dragons the only reason they married her?
“No! Please… don’t kill me! My father… will pay back your tribute” she cries but her husbands are already turning away and dragging me back with them.
She deserves every minute of the agony. It may be a matter of time before they kill me too and take my blood but at least my neck won’t be hanging on a silver chain until then.
“We will be sending our army to burn down King Ademon’s kingdom. No one will get away with hurting your family,” King Tiras says in a sweet tone.
“You mean that no one will get away with conning you of your fortune?” I correct.
Yes, I know they are furious that King Ademon used his pretentious daughter to con them. That’s the only reason they would burn down his kingdom. Not me or my father.
