I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 50

King Ronen’s POV

“Devil’s Island is in the north. I think we should take that road,” our queen points at the road heading west.

We were idiots to even believe that she knew where to find Sincarions. She was a fancy princess not a knight. She cannot tell even basic directions. It’s like all she was taught was to fake her beauty and talents.

“No it isn’t in the north,” the witch’s spy in the cage loudly differs with her. “The devil’s Island is in the south. Only a few miles down the other road,” he claims.

Who should we believe? Our queen definitely doesn’t know a thing, the other is a proven liar. We should have let Ira punch the ugly face off her head. I may have held her back, but deeply I was impressed by her feisty punch.

We needed our queen to believe that she was safe from harm at least until she shows us the family of Sincarions. Now I realize that we should have left her in the cage. Why is achieving a little goal so difficult out here? I don’t need to tell you that I also hate the fact that we have to do everything ourselves. No servants.

I can’t just order incompetent fools to be executed, I have to get my hands dirty.

“He may be right. Like I said, I wasn’t allowed to be out here a lot,” our queen finally admits.

It would still be stupid to believe the witch’s spy. It was never his goal to help us. Anything he says can be a trap.

“We will go south. If this Island isn’t there then we will cut your head and hers off,” Tiras warns.

Our queen trembles in fear.

“I can assure you that the Island is that way, your majesties. You can take my life if it’s not,” the witch’s spy swears.

That’s sounds like a better assurance. Because it’s the truth in exchange for retaining his life a little longer.

Tiras steps out for his turn to guide the carriage. It’s a humbling job that I was getting utterly grossed out doing.

I take a seat and our queen tries to lean closer. “I am so cold,” she mutters.

“A part of you better not touch me. No one will complain if I cut your neck,” I remind.

She scurries away quickly and sits at the corner farthest from me. “I have been accepting of you more than your mate does. You do not want to offend her further but she already made peace with the fact that you will always love a woman of royal blood,” she says.

She was talking like this when I was out there? How comes I did not hear screams? When did my brothers become so tolerant?

I cast an illusion of intense pain upon her mind and she wails so loud that Tiras immediately stops the carriage.

“Adon stop! People will hear her and get curious,” he shouts.

I had not thought of that. I dissolve the illusion and the ugly woman falls quiet again, breathing hard.

“Do not speak of our mate again if you do not want me to turn you into a potato forever,” I warn after the carriage resumes moving.

“You can do that?” Ronen raises an eyebrow.

“They are right. It is important that we move fast before dusk. Forests are harder to navigate in darkness,” Lior advises. Ira appears to think for a brief moment before nodding her head. “Fine. You can carry me past the forest.”

Ronen turns and she gets on his back. “Hold on tighter,” he requests and she tightens her hold around his shoulders.

I would have offered to carry her if I had known that she was going to accept eventually.

“I think my head still hurts. I am not sure I can walk far,” our queen pretends.

“You have the option of dying now,” I offer.

She shakes her head. “I might make it despite my pains.”

We start to enter the forest and she quickly follows.

“Aren’t you forgetting something, your majesties?” the witch’s spy shouts from the cage. “I know these forests better than anyone! The devious witch sends her spies to set deadly traps! I will recognise them all for you!”

I wonder how much more he hasn’t told us. Being the witch’s favourite spy he must be aware of a lot of her secrets.

Tiras turns and tosses the key next to the cage.
