I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 60

Ira’s Pov

“Golden Wolves are fantasy powerful wolves that can be invisible at will. Of all other rewards the witch has ever promised that one is the most enviable. I was never informed of it,” Thumas informs in a dreamy tone.

Of course it’s power that they desire the most. Kingdoms have always admired the angel kings for their powers. They sent huge tributes and their beautiful daughters to Lordsland in hope of getting alliances with the mighty kings. I would understand why they would crave such extraordinary power. The horrors of this world can make a person’s heart extremely desperate. But can the dark angel really grant them such powers when he himself is imprisoned by his brother? And how worthy are those powers when they come at the cost of murdering innocents?

Lior finishes cutting the chains off the slaves that were left in the boat of the witch’s followers. “You can return to your pack or go to Lordsland. It will be safer there,” he advises before grabbing a huge sack of the stolen fortune and making his way back to our boat. Linda waits ready to unburden him of the load.

“I thought we should add this to what we are going to offer the seers. It might increase our chances of getting better counsel, ” he explains. The angel kings nod in approval.

“Thank you your majesties. We will find our way to your kingdom and do our best to make it greater than it already is,” the oldest of the freed slaves say in gratitude. They all now their heads in respect despite their injuries and obvious tiredness.

King Adon only offers the a nod in return.

They row the boat away. They might not make it to Lordsland with the remaining fortune but at least they will not die on the altar of the devious witch. Hopefully I will be as lucky. To meet strangers who offer free help.

“When those men spoke about Golden wolves I noticed that while they believed they would be the first golden wolves to exist if they find the Princess of Levitts, it was untrue,” Aruin tells.

“You mean there will never be golden wolves?” Thumas curiously asks, a hint of disappointment in his voice.

“Or that even if those men were to find Ira, they wouldn’t be the first golden wolves to exist,” Aruin answers.

I totally understand. He cannot make his own truth, but he can tell if certain words are false. The information he has given us now isn’t very useful though, just worrying.

If golden wolves already exist, then the witch is more powerful than we realised and will have a formidable army. There is however a chance that she lied to her followers and golden wolves will never exist.

“With all due respect, your majesty, you were happy to order my execution when we had a bond. You humiliated me during your wedding to your queen because you considered me a disgrace.” I remind. “Now you claim to love me unconditionally. Nothing makes sense, even to a retarded fool.”

“We did all that, yes, and now we love you more than we have ever loved anything or anyone. It is a matter of understanding what was truly good but was unfortunately treated like the evil. We owe you a million apologies. But we would rather give you things that matter, at least until we get back to the palace. Whay don’t you ask the Sincarion if our claims are untrue,” he defends.

I already know what the Sincarion will say, that they love me genuinely without caring about my blood. He however cannot tell how little they love me. Not as much as they love their kingdom obviously.

“Do you think I would be able to love you back after everything?” I ask. “My body is full of ugly scars that will always remind me of all the pain you put me through.”

He is quiet for a moment, gazing out at the sea. “We do not ask that you love us back, just let us take care of you,” he says. His request of what they expect from me sounds too good to be true. But I have nothing to lose. Our quest continues. “There! Told you the valley wasn’t that far,” Aruin announces, pointing at the strange land ahead.
