I Welcome Your Rejection: Angel Kings’ Proud Mate novel Chapter 64

Ira’s Pov

I wake up feeling like I slept in thick, tight chains. But it’s just King Tiras’s muscular arms wrapped around me. I am hardly breathing, yet I slept peacefully. His scent is like a heavenly-made perfume, despite the fact that it is no longer strengthened by a matebond. I am breathing it in from close range.

Even upclose his skin is flawless. With his eyes closed he looks like an innocent angel, strong but kind. The kind of partner I would be willing to trust. Why does the most beautiful people have characters that are the opposite of their enticing appearance?

I wonder why he is holding me? My scent is definitely awful. In fact I am worried that he will complain about how I smell if I am still here when he wakes. I haven’t had the chance to bathe throughout the last few days. And unlike everyone else I am a human that sweats.

The angel stirs and wakes after I start to pull away.

“Good morning. It is time to go,” I say.

“You’re an early bird. You should get a little more sleep. We might not get the time after entering witchelms,” he urges.

“I will have a proper rest after saving my father. I doubt he is having good sleep in Lysandra’s care,” I reply and he finally lets go.

I take off his cloak and place it on his shoulders. “You should keep hiding your faces. Your devious aunt shouldn’t know that we are on our way,” I add.

“Yes M’lady,” he says as if he isn’t the only royal here.

Is this dirty quest taking away their sense of pride? It would be the only good thing coming of it so far.

“Thumas! Thumas!” Lior’s voice loudly calls. Where did that traitor go?”

I look around after stepping off the boat and there is indeed no sight of Thumas or the fortune he took from the valley’s wall. In fact there isn’t a belonging of his that remains.

No one would have wanted to sleep close to him of course. Linda seems to be the only other person that slept far from everyone as she wakes from under a palm three several metres away from the darkened spot where angel Tiras had built fire.

She too gazes around anxiously as her mate carries on searching for Thumas. She stands with trembling feet. Her lips move but no audible words come out.

“That traitor must have run away,” Lior angrily announces.

That is no surprise. Thumas was never really on our side. Or his mind changed last night after getting tempted by the fortune. It’s no loss though. We no longer needed his participation in this quest. The Sincarion assured us of Thumas’s stand. He however cannot sense whether a person can change his mind.

“Why search for a burden that luckily chose to unburden us with it’s presence?” Angel Adon asks, already sounding annoyed by Lior’s shouting.

Lior shrugs his shoulders and falls quiet. But his mate remains petrified, standing motionless with tears gathering in her eyes. What is wrong with her? She had a crush on Thomas?

“I can’t find… the bottle of blood!” Aruin suddenly exclaims. “It was right here in this bag.”

“Have you searched well before trying to burn our hearts with worry?” Angel Tiras questions.

Aruin empties all the contents of his small bags onto the sand. There is indeed no sight of the tinny bottle with my blood. He is also a Sincarion who cannot lie to get more. So where did it disappear to?

Thumas seized the perfect opportunity to take advantage of her thoughtless mind. He must have known that Lior had put the bracelet back on and she was upset. He used her to steal my blood from Aruin because he couldn’t get so close to the Sincarion himself.

“You… dumb gross thing! You gave our enemies what they needed to win this war!” Lior bursts, marching forward faster. His hands wrap around her neck and starts to squeeze.

She desperately struggles to free her neck from his grip, her eyes bulging as she gasps for air. But he keeps squeezing.

“Do not give her a quick death. She doesn’t deserve it,” King Adon orders.

Lior relinquishes his hold and steps back, disappointment vivid on his face. Linda coughs hard before bursting into fresh tears

once more.

“I… didn’t know! Please show mercy. You know it was a mistake,” she pleads on her hands and knees.

I am usually merciful, but I am feeling quite heartless right now. The woman just ruined us all, literally. I cannot think of a cruel punishment she doesn’t deserve.

She lets out a sudden deafening scream and starts rolling in the sand while clutching her head. I am confused about what has happened to her until I notice King Adon’s focused face. Whatever illusion he cast on her mind must be convincing her that she is under a lot of pain.
