Hearing that, Zoya almost choked on her own spit. She quickly grabbed a glass of lemonade and took a sip. “Mr. Richmond, you’re joking, right?“.

“I’m not joking,” Wren replied.

Zoya was left silent for a moment, lost in thought. ‘Does this man really want to chop off his hands after his death and give them to me? What kind of person even thinks like that?‘

They said Wren was a madman, and at this moment, she felt she understood that even more deeply.

“No need,” she quickly refused. “I still prefer hands attached to a living body rather than cold specimens.”

“That’s a pity,” he said. “I thought this would better express my gratitude for Mrs. Mayer’s life–saving help.”

Zoya was left speechless again. She certainly didn’t feel any pity. “I’ve already said, Mr. Richmond, if you really want to thank me, you can donate to charity.”

Wren raised his hand, and a bodyguard beside him handed a document to Zoya.

She glanced at it and saw it was a donation certificate for a new school.

Which meant… in such a short time, Wren had already completed all the donation procedures for a school. All that was left was for the local government to build it.

“If Mrs. Mayer wants to rename the school, you can do so now, like adding your name to it,” Wren suggested.

“No need,” said Zoya, looking over the document in her hands. A soft smile touched her lips. “But thank you.”

Her genuine smile caught Wren off guard. Those bright, smiling eyes of hers were so clear and bright. And all just because he’d donated to one school.

He was used to people sticking around for fame or money–trying to flatter him, angle for an advantage.

‘But this woman didn’t want fame, didn’t want fortune. So what was she really after?‘ he wondered.

“Mrs. Mayer, interested in being my bodyguard?” Wren suddenly asked.

“What?” Zoya was startled. “You want me to be your bodyguard?”

“You’re pretty capable, Mrs. Mayer. Plus, you had my back that time. Ever think about being my security? Money won’t be a problem if you say yes.”

“Sorry, I’ve already joined Bluesky Technology and have no plans to change jobs,” Zoya declined.

“Too bad,” Wren said calmly, but didn’t continue the topic.

Zoya finally relaxed. As she was leaving after the meal, Wren spoke up. “Mrs. Mayer, I don’t often need saving, but if you’re gonna save me, you gotta see it through.”

Zoya was taken aback, meeting Wren’s deep–sea–like gaze while wondering, ‘What did he mean by seeing it through?

“He’s got so many bodyguards, even if something dangerous happens, they’d save him!‘

Zoya didn’t ask, though, and Wren didn’t explain further.

Soon after parting with Wren, Zoya got a call from Violette.

Chapter 14

Since Zoya had blacklisted Violette’s personal number, Violette had to call using the company phone.

“Zoya, write a new project proposal for the project you were handling before,” Violette said matter–of–factly.

Zoya almost laughed in anger. “Why should I?”

“Don’t forget you’re my brother’s wife. When I say write, you write, you got that?” Violette snapped.

After all, Zoya loved her brother. She’d do anything for him, no questions asked. So, Violette just figured Zoya’d go along with it this time, too.”

“Your brother’s wife?” Zoya chuckled, “Don’t you call Jasmine your sister–in–law pretty sweetly? Then let her write it for you.”

“I’ll call anyone my sister–in–law if I want to. If you don’t write the proposal right now, I’ll make my brother divorce you. He always listens to me, so get ready to be dumped, Violette said viciously.

Nicolas glanced at Violette’s proposal, and it was a total mess–clearly some random patch–up job with content contradicting itself.

“Mom, I’ll figure something out to secure an appointment with Dr. Waller,” Nicolas said.

“Your sister’s right today. Zoya is a vicious woman. You should divorce her!” Anica cursed.

Nicolas stood, annoyed. “Stop bringing this up. Zoya hasn’t wronged me, so I won’t wrong her.”

Anica and Violette exchanged a look, and right away, they could see the same disappointment in each other’s eyes.

And Anica was grumbling to herself, full of resentment, Was that 30 million dollars really gonna have to go to Zoya?‘

The next day, Nicolas got hit with an even bigger bummer. “What? The bank loan didn’t go through?” he asked his secretary.

“Nope,” Gilbert replied.

“Why?” Nicolas queried.

“Word is, the Blanhull Investments that was partnering with us pulled their interest,” Gilbert explained.

Nicolas was shocked. He didn’t stop to wonder how the bank knew something he hadn’t even heard about yet.

He quickly dialed Blanhull’s project manager. “Mr. Blevins, I wanted to check on that verbal investment agreement with our

company…”

“Was just about to call you, Mr. Mayer. We’re scrapping the deal. Originally, it was due to Mrs. Zoya Mayer, but since she left, the deal’s off the table,” Alex replied.

Hearing the words, Nicolas was stunned, barely believing his ears, “Zoya?”
