Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 156

Zoya let out a low cry, yanked Wren forward, and rushed to the sink where she turned on the faucet, letting

the cold water cascade over his burned hand.

His right hand was turning red. It was obvious that coffee was piping hot.

Wren murmured, Got leads on your brother?

Zoya was stunned. The military did find something, but your hand comes first right now! You really need to hold your cup steady next time. Just look at your hand now, it’s already blistering.

Wren looked down. What kind of clue did they find? Do you think they’ll find your brother soon?

They just discovered a military drone my brother used five years ago. The army sent people to retrieve it, but whether it contains any useful data remains to be seen. ButI just have a gut feeling that I’ll be able to find my brother soon,Zoya said.

Wren’s face turned pale, and as Zoya held his hand under the cold water, it started to tremble.

Does it hurt?Zoya asked softly.

Would your heart ache if I’m hurting?Wren asked.

Zoya looked up at Wren. You’re my boyfriend, so of course, my heart aches if you’re in pain. But I don’t want you to think injuries don’t matter just because I’ll care. I want you to take better care of yourself.

Wren stiffened up, meeting her eyes.

It was the first time anyone ever told him to take care of himself.

His parents never showed concern for his health. Sure, his grandfather treated him well, but all he ever wanted was for Wren to get stronger, strong enough to take charge of the Richmond family one day.

As for his subordinates, no matter how loyal they were, what they showed him was more awe than anything else.

And he, too, never cared about his own body. Even in the past, no matter how severely injured he was, he felt it was no big deal, sometimes even thinking that if he died right then, it wouldn’t be a bad thing.

But now, because of Zoya, it was as if his entire world had changed.

Zoya carefully dried his hand with a paper towel after rinsing it with cold water for a long while. Then she glanced at Wren and asked, Where’s the first aid kit?

Don’t have one,Wren said.

Seriously? No first aid kit?Zoya looked surprised.

I don’t really stay here much,Wren explained. Before, when he didn’t want to return to the Richmond

Mansion, he used this place as an occasional retreat.

Suddenly, it made sense to Zoya. No wonder this place feels so empty,’ she thought, hardly any furniture or personal stuff at all.

Fortunately, delivery services were so convenient. Zoya ordered burn medicine online through a delivery app, then asked, What would you like to cat tonight?

Anything works for me. What about you? Anything you’re in the mood for?Wren asked.

If you’re fine with anything, let’s just have pasta for dinner. I’ll cook two servings for dinner tonight. Sound good?Zoya suggested.

You’re actually gonna cook?Wren raised an eyebrow at her, not quite convinced.

What? Still don’t trust my cooking?Zoya laughed as she added vegetables, beef, and pasta to her online order. Just wait. I’ll whip some up for you soon. Back when I was in the service, I used to cook pasta for everyone all the time, and they loved it.

Did Harvey ever get to try your cooking, too?Wren suddenly asked.

Zoya blinked, then grinned. You’re that interested in Harvey?

Wren pressed his lips together. He went through so many things with you that I never experienced with you.”

He’s my comrade, and honestly, he’s like my little brother. I knew him long before I met you,Zoya said.

Wren felt a pang in his chest, his eyes growing distant. Yeah, why didn’t I meet her sooner?he thought. If only I’d known her earlier

But you’re my boyfriend now, and we’ve got so much time ahead of us, so many more memories to make together!Zoya added.

Her gentle voice was like a warm breeze, chasing away the unease that had just crept up on Wren.

Soon after, the delivery arrived. Zoya gently dabbed burn ointment onto Wren’s hand, her touch careful and soothing, then gathered the groceries and headed into the kitchen.

Wren made a move to follow, but Zoya stopped him. Your hand’s injured. Just stay in the living room and

rest.

But I really wanna go with you to the kitchen,Wren insisted. I’ll just stay beside you quietly and watch. I swear I won’t get in your way.

Alright, you can come,Zoya relented, suddenly realizing Wren seemed clingier than she’d imagined.

Once inside the kitchen, Zoya began washing vegetables, chopping ingredients, and slicing meatWren leaned quietly against the wall, his eyes fixed on her every movement as she worked.

He’d never really understood the appeal of watching someone cook.

But at that moment, he seemed unable to look away from her.

To him, this apartment once felt cold and lifeless. But now, with her here, the whole place felt warm and alive.

Would it be this warm if we ever got married?he wondered. I don’t need her to do these things. I can cook for her every day and learn to make whatever she likes to eat. And our children will be laughing and running around us. This scene feels so beautiful, like a dream.

Two plates of tomato beef pasta were ready. Zoya was just about to turn back and call Wren when suddenly, he stepped up behind her, slipping his arms around her waist.

Careful with your hand!Zoya blurted out.

Wren nuzzled closer, his cheek brushing hers as he whispered, Zozo, right now, I feel like the happiest guy in the world.

It was because he’d tasted this happiness that he was even more scared of ever losing it.

I feel so happy, too, to have a boyfriend like you,Zoya said with a gentle smile.

Really?Wren asked softly.

Of course, Wren. I hope that in the future, we can be like my parents, side by side through everything, never giving up on each other,Zoya said.

Wren’s eyes suddenly lit up with excitement. You said it, never giving up on each other!

Yeah, I did!Zoya smiled.

Wren tightened his hold on her, hope flickering in his chest as he thought, So, even if I mess up, she’ll still forgive me, and she won’t ever leave me, right?

After Eowyn and Leon left the motel that day, Leon looked so cold that it was like she owed him a fortune or something.

Please, I should get points for actually being the kind of ex who knows how to set boundaries,Eowyn complained inwardly. Or does he want me to just throw myself at him so he can feel better?

Back then, she’d overheard his friends ribbing him. Leon, dude, why are you dating someone as ordinary as Eowyn?one of them asked. Got bored of chasing after all those gorgeous girls and decided you wanted something lowkey for a change?

For real!another one echoed. Eowyn’s just average, you know? It’s not like she’s anything special. And come on, you’ve got half the pretty girls on campus chasing after you, Leon!

Seriously, man, you can’t be into her for real, right?said another friend of Leon’s.

Back then, Eowyn stood outside the door, silently wishing that Leon would actually say he cared, that even if she was nothing special, he genuinely liked her.

But all she got instead was, It’s just a way to kill time.”

At that moment, Eowyn felt frozen to the core.

All that romance she’d dreamed about turned out to be something to kill time with in his eyes.

She used to think she was lucky, but reality only made her realize how pathetic it all really was.
