Lady Warrior's Warth on Divorce Day novel Chapter 181

Chapter 181

Zoya turned around coldly. “Nicolas, you can call me Zoya or Ms. Lucero, but “Zozo’ is not a name you’re allowed to use.”

Nicolas paused. “I just got used to it.”

“Got used to it?” Zoya scoffed. During their three years of marriage, Nicolas rarely called her “Zozo.” He usually just called her by her full name.

But now that they were divorced, he suddenly wanted to call her so intimately.

“Well, you can drop that habit right now. Don’t ever let me hear you say it again, or I’ll just get sick,” Zoya said.

Nicolas’s face went pale.

Nicolas couldn’t believe it. He thought, ‘It makes her sick?

‘I still remember the first time I called her “Zozo” after we started dating. She had such a warm and gentle smile on her face.

‘But now, does she really only feel disgust when she hears me calling her Zozo?’

Just as Zoya was about to get in the car, Nicolas quickly blocked her way. “Can we talk? There’s a lot I need to say to you.”

“If you’re here about Violette, don’t bother. My decision won’t change. When we get to court, she’ll have another charge added to her list. If you’ve got the time for this, you’d be better off spending it with your lawyer instead,” Zoya said coldly.

Eowyn smirked, “I seriously doubt you’ve still got the cash for a half-decent lawyer, Mr. Mayer. If Mayer Technology doesn’t lock down fresh capital within the month, your cash flow is going to halt. I’d bet bankruptcy isn’t far off.”

Nicolas’s expression went grim. He shot Eowyn a glare. “How do you even know about that?”

This kind of thing was supposed to be confidential. Hardly anyone on the outside should know.

Eowyn shrugged. “Trust me, word’s already all over the industry. About that 15 million dollars you borrowed, the bank’s still got it frozen thanks to your lifesaver, Jasmine. You might be bankrupt before you even get your

hands on the cash.”

At her words, Nicolas’s face flushed, then went pale.

Those words dripped with irony, driving home just how badly he’d messed up.

Nicolas said, “Zoya, I’m not here because of my mother or Violette. Violette crossed the line, and she’ll have to deal with the consequences.

“I just wanted to say I’m sorry. I hope you might forgive me. If I had known you were the one who saved my

life, I’d have treasured you above anyone else in the world.”

‘Instead of making a mess of everything for that Jasmine,’ Nicolas thought.

But Zoya’s expression stayed calm, not a flicker of emotion on her face.

“You don’t believe me?” Nicolas asked.

Zoya scoffed, eyes glinting with sarcasm. “So, if I were the one who saved your life, you’d suddenly start treasuring me. But if I wasn’t, then all the things you did to me during our three years of marriage were perfectly alright, right?”

Nicolas hesitated. “I just want you to know that I regret it. Zoya, I really regret everything I did to you back

then.”

“Nicolas, you really are trash,” Zoya shot back, pure disgust in her eyes.

“What?” Nicolas blurted out.

Zoya said, “The only reason you regret it is because you found out I was the one who saved your life. If I hadn’t been, you wouldn’t feel even a hint of guilt.

“If you’re so obsessed with your savior and paying them back, then you should’ve just gone ahead and announced you’d only marry the person who rescued you.”

“But you are my savior,” Nicolas replied.

Zoya fired back, “What if I hadn’t been? So I’d just deserve to be ignored and gaslighted by you for all those years? Just because Jasmine never saved your life, all those feelings you had for her meant nothing?”

Nicolas was left speechless, completely at a loss for words.

“So, anyone who saves your life is automatically the one you fall for? Maybe you should go jump in the river again and see who shows up to drag you out. Just don’t mix up who your savior is this time,” Zoya snapped.

With that, Zoya got into the car.

Eowyn hopped in after her, and the car rolled out of the lot.

Nicolas just stood there, frozen, until Anica and Violette came looking for him.

“Nicolas, where’s Zoya? Did you warn her not to sue Violette with an extra charge?” Anica asked.

Violette whined, “Nicolas, the court date’s coming up soon. Can’t you get us some more famous lawyers? These two we’ve got now are nobodies. We’re probably gonna lose. It’s not like you can’t afford it. What’s a little extra cash to you?”

Nicolas shot Violette a fierce glare. “Nothing? How many times do I have to say it. The company’s running on empty. If we don’t pull off a miracle, it’s bankruptcy for all of us.

“You seriously still think I’ve got cash lying around? Violette, what do you actually do besides burn through

money?”

Violette gasped, “Bankruptcy? No way. Come on, Nicolas. You’re supposed to be a business whiz. You took the company public in just three years. Don’t tell me you can’t figure out a miracle now!”

Nicolas let out a bitter laugh and thought, ‘If Zoya were still with the company, maybe none of this would’ve happened.

‘It’s all Jasmine’s fault.

‘If it weren’t for her, everything would still be perfect. My wife would still love me, my business would be thriving, and my future would be bright.

‘Now it’s all hanging by a thread. The company could go bust any minute.’

Even if the police managed to recoup the 15 million dollars Jasmine sent to Paul using Nicolas’s phone, it’d take at least three months before the money would come back to Nicolas’s account.

By then, his company would be long gone.

Nicolas needed to come up with a plan fast.

*****

At Hoyles Law Firm.

Harvey lounged on the couch, eyeing Leon at his desk. “Seriously, Uncle Leon, did you call me in just so I could watch you review paperwork?”

Leon finished reviewing the file, signed his name, then looked up at Harvey. “So, what’s really going on between you and Eowyn?”

“Friends, I suppose,” Harvey said. If it weren’t for Zoya, he and Eowyn probably wouldn’t even know each other.

“Just friends?” Leon narrowed his eyes.

“Do

you

wish that I had something going on with her?” Harvey shot back.

Leon was quiet for a moment, then said slowly, “Don’t get any ideas about her.”

Harvey nearly slid off the couch in surprise.

‘Does Uncle Leon really think Eowyn’s such a catch that every guy’s lining up for her?’ Harvey scoffed inwardly.

Harvey said, “Trust me, you don’t have to worry at all. I’m seriously not interested in her. Wait, Uncle Leon, are you still holding a torch for Eowyn? Are you thinking about starting things up again?”

‘Leon’s always so aloof. He’d never say something like that if he didn’t still have some feelings left,’ Harvey thought to himself.

“Yeah,” Leon replied flatly.

He had to admit that he’d never really moved on from Eowyn.

Even after their breakup, she’d still haunt his thoughts from time to time. When Leon saw Eowyn walk with Harvey into a hotel room, a wave of jealousy sharper than ever washed over him.

Leon knew that he was still obsessed with Eowyn.
