Zoya rushed out of the restroom cabin, but only caught a glimpse of a figure leaving the restroom.
By the time she dashed out, all she saw were the crowds in the mall–no way to figure out who just made that call.
That call said the bomb would go off on time.
So, a timed bomb?
If the target was Wren, the bomb must be nearby.
She needed to get back to Wren ASAP and evacuate the mall.
Zoya dialed a number she hadn’t touched in ages.
“Zoya?” A voice she once knew so well came through.
“It’s me. I’m at Cattel Mall.” She quickly recounted what she heard in the restroom. “Whether the call’s real or not, we gotta evacuate the mall to avoid casualties.”
“Just one call? Evacuating the mall could cause panic.”
“I know you can handle this. Please!”
“So if this hadn’t happened today, you weren’t ever gonna reach out to me again, were you?”
“Sorry!”
“No need to be. I said it before your orders, I follow, no questions!”
The call ended. Zoya finally relaxed a bit.
‘He’d help. Good. If he’s in, evacuating’s a done deal. Now, back to Wren on the top floor!‘ She ran to the elevator, but it was stuck.
‘Damn it! Did those guys mess with it, too?‘ she cursed inwardly.
Zoya bolted towards the emergency exit, currently on the 6th floor, with the top floor being the 10th. Floors 7, 8, and 9 were office levels for the mall.
So, she had to hustle up four floors pronto.
As she raced to the 8th floor, she heard the mall’s PA system advising guests to leave due to an impromptu safety test for earthquakes and fires.
She caught on quick–that person was already evacuating the guests.
The big issue now? She had no clue where the bomb was or when it was gonna blow.
Soon, Zoya reached the top floor.
But it was pitch black, all the lights out.
Sounds of fighting and groans filled the air.
Zoya shivered and made a beeline for the noise.

Chapter 20
“Wren, I’m gonna kill you!” A furious shout rang out.
Followed by some stifled grunts.
Zoya picked up the pace. “Wren…”
But what greeted her eyes cut her short.
The floor was littered with bodies, sprawled and lifeless.
A tall figure stood in the center, covered in splatters of blood, his long fingers drenched in it.
But it seemed… all the blood was from others.
“Yes, I knew,” Wren admitted frankly. “This is the second time, though.”
She frowned. “What second time?”
“The second time you risked your life to save me,” he said, his gaze fixed on her. “Why? Because you’re ex–military? You’d do the same for anyone in danger?”

“Isn’t that reason enough?” She stood up, relieved now that the bomb threat was over.
Soon, Wren’s men rushed in, quickly clearing the bomb and the fallen assassins.
“Mr. Richmond.” One of his men handed over a clean, damp towel and fresh clothes.

Wren took the towel and wiped the blood off his hands, then unbuttoned his blood–soaked shirt, revealing his lean, toned chest.
Zoya, caught off guard, quickly turned away upon seeing this. “Since you’re fine, Mr. Richmond, I’ll be on my way.”
“Mrs. Mayer, you might want to change too before leaving. Otherwise, you’ll draw too much attention.” Wren’s voice came from behind her.
Only then did she notice that her own clothes were stained with blood from when she had just pushed him to the ground.
Soon, one of Wren’s men brought another set of women’s clothes.
Zoya didn’t refuse; she went to the staff changing room in the restaurant to swap outfits. After all, her blood–stained clothes really were too ‘conspicuous.
On the elevator ride down, Wren suddenly said, “I still really want you.”
Zoya was surprised.
“Seriously, don’t you want to be my bodyguard?” he asked.
Relieved, she replied, “I already told you last time. I’m not planning to be a bodyguard right now. Besides, Mr. Richmond, you already have so many bodyguards; they’re more than enough to keep you safe.”
“But if it were you, no matter what danger came, you definitely wouldn’t leave me behind, would you?” He stared at her intently.
