Chapter 21
Wren’s head was lowered, and he was really close to Zoya.
Those pretty eyes that used to look so lifeless now seemed to shimmer with a faint emotion, almost like… desire.
Zoya almost laughed at the word that flashed through her mind.
‘What am I thinking? Wren would never desire a bodyguard, no matter what!‘ she thought to herself.
“There are plenty of people in this world who won’t abandon Mr. Richmond. You don’t need me,” she replied.
Ding dong!
The elevator reached the ground floor, the doors opened, and Zoya quickly stepped out.

“You should go to the hospital for a check–up, Mr Richmond. I’m heading back now.” With that, she turned and left.
Wren gave off a dangerous vibe, and her gut told her it was best to stay away from guys like him.
Wren quietly watched Zoya’s retreating figure, then suddenly spoke to his secretary. “How do you think I can get Zoya?”
Hearing this, Gilbert was shocked. As Wren’s personal secretary, he knew that his boss was almost like a man without desires.
After all, for Wren, getting what he wanted was way too easy. He didn’t even have to lift a finger; what he wanted just came to him on its own.
But now, Wren… actually wanted Zoya.
“Well… it seems Zoya isn’t the kind to be swayed by money. Even though she’s retired, she still has that soldier’s pride in her bones,” Gilbert cautiously replied.
He had been the one to dig up Zoya’s background, so he knew her story well.
“Yeah, she’s not easily swayed by money. So, what if it’s an order? Would she follow it?” Wren murmured thoughtfully.
Gilbert was stunned. ‘It looks like Mr. Richmond really wanted to get Zoya. Hard to tell whether she’s lucky or screwed now.

Back at the villa, Zoya dropped off the clothes she’d changed out of at the mall in the laundry room, planning to clean the bloodstains on them later.
The outfit Wren gave her? Designer stuff. On the way back, she checked the prices online–totaled over 20 thousand.
‘Rich people really don’t care about money, huh? Guess I’ll dry clean them later and return them,’ she thought to herself.
Right then, her phone buzzed–it was a call from Eowyn.
As soon as she picked up, Eowyn’s loud voice blared through the phone. “You ran into that mall bomb scare today? You okay?”
“I’m fine,” Zoya replied. “You’re quick with the news. How’d you find out?”
“You called Harvey. Of course, I found out! You call him when something like this happens, but don’t even think of me?” Eowyn’s voice dripped with jealousy.
Zoya chuckled. “Harvey can evacuate the mall fast. You think you could do that?”

Eowyn immediately shut up. What could she say? Harvey was the youngest son of the Crawford family; his dad was an army general, and his mom was an academy scholar. They were crazy well–connected.
“But hey, you married Nicolas all hush–hush back then. Harvey was fuming. Now you call him, and he jumps to help. He over his tantrum yet?” Eowyn asked.
“Someone else’s blood? What happened?” Nicolas asked, puzzled.
“When I was shopping, someone got injured, and my clothes accidentally got a bit of blood on them,” she said casually, not intending to elaborate on the incident at the mall.
“Glad you’re not hurt,” he murmured, his tension easing.
“What about you? Why are you back so early? Didn’t you go with Jasmine?” Zoya asked casually.
Nicolas’s expression changed slightly. “Jasmine and I are just friends. You’re my wife. I know you’ve endured a lot recently, and I promise to spend more time with you from now on.”

‘From now on?‘ Zoya scoffed inwardly. ‘There was no “from now on” for us. If he really saw me as his wife, he wouldn’t keep leaving me for Jasmine.’
“So… you came back early today just to spend time with me? Really?” she asked, looking straight at him.
In that instant, Nicolas felt like she was seeing right through him. “Uh, yeah, to spend time with you, and also to talk about work stuff. I want you back at the company.”
Zoya smiled knowingly; so that was why he was back early.
“I’ve already joined a friend’s company. I’m not back,” she said.
“I know you’re at Bluesky Technology, but you’re my wife. Would a friend really come before your husband?”
“Oh, really? So to you, even your own wife means less than your ‘friend‘ Jasmine?” Zoya said sarcastically.
Nicolas choked on his words. “Enough. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Just return to your job. That’s what matters.”
