Wren was clearly a proud golden boy, yet at this moment, he made Zoya feel that the person before her seemed as if he could break at any moment.
Wren wasn’t like this when they had breakfast together this morning.
What exactly happened to make Wren seem like a different person?’ Zoya wondered.
“Yes, I’m back,” Zoya said. She stepped forward, raising the umbrella in her hand.
The large black umbrella shielded the rain from above them.
“The rain is getting heavier here. Let’s go back inside first,” Zoya said.
But Wren seemed not to hear her words. His gaze once again turned to the large tree in front of them, “Do you know? My mother used to love climbing this tree.”
“What?” Zoya was stunned. ‘His mother liked climbing trees?’ she thought.
“She always climbed trees, looking into the distance. She wanted to escape this place, but she was imprisoned here by my father and couldn’t get out at all,” Wren said.
Zoya was silent.
“Zoya, I am not my father, and I will never be like my father,” he said softly.
“I know,” Zoya replied.
Wren stiffened, and he sharply turned to look at her. “You believe that?”
“Yes, I do,” she said.
An unfamiliar emotion slowly spread through Wren’s chest.
Many people in this world said Wren resembled his father and that one day, he might become a madman, just like his father.
But now, Zoya believed he wouldn’t be like his father.
“Alright, let’s go. You’re drenched. You’d better get inside quickly to avoid getting sick,” Zoya
said, taking a step. She then saw Wren still standing there.
So, Zoya reached out, took his hand, and walked toward the main house.
The rain kept hitting the umbrella, making a pattering sound.

Wren gazed blankly at the hand holding his. It was much smaller than his, with calluses on its fingers. Though slender, it possessed a sense of strength, utterly unlike delicate, boneless hands.
Her hand brought him a sense of reassurance.
Led by Zoya, Wren walked forward, step by step.
It was as if he didn’t need to worry about anything; following her steps would lead him in the right direction.
Once inside the villa, Zoya closed the umbrella and looked at the drenched Wren.
He now exuded a sense of brokenness.
He lowered his head, his gaze fixed on their clasped hands.
Zoya sighed and simply took his hand, leading Wren back to his bedroom, where she also drew a warm bath for him in the bathtub.
“Although I don’t know what exactly happened to you, for now, take a good bath to ward off the cold,” Zoya said.
Water droplets were still continuously dripping from Wren’s face, hair, and body.
“What about you? Will you wait for me here?” he asked.
“Yes, I will. I am your bodyguard now, so naturally, I must protect your safety,” she replied.
“What if you weren’t my bodyguard-” His voice suddenly paused. He remembered he had asked her this before.
‘And what’s her answer to me? She said that even if she didn’t protect me, many other bodyguards would, he wondered.
“It’s nothing. I’ll go wash.” He let go of her hand and hurried into the bathroom, even fearing that if he went in too late, he would hear words he didn’t want to hear.
His body was enveloped by the warm water in the bathtub.
Wren only felt that the chill that had permeated his body seemed to be dissipating little by
little.
After his father left today, he unconsciously found himself under the big tree in the courtyard, recalling his mother’s past despair.

‘If my feelings for Zoya deepen, will I truly treat her the same way Dad treated Mom?’ he thought.
It was obsessed and mad. It was like a brand etched onto the souls of the Richmond family.
If their love was mutual, then perhaps it would be very fulfilling.
But if it were only unrequited love, it would often end in tragedy, just like his father and mother.
When Wren had showered, put on his bathrobe, and walked out of the bathroom, he didn’t see Zoya in the room.
In that instant, his heart suddenly sank. ‘She isn’t waiting for me here, so has she left me?’ he wondered.
But in the very next moment, the sound of the door opening was heard, and he suddenly looked toward the room entrance, only to see Zoya walking in, carrying a tray.
The feeling of loss that had filled his heart suddenly vanished without a trace.
She didn’t abandon him.
“You’re done showering, perfect timing,” Zoya said as she approached.
Wren then saw clearly that in the tray Zoya was carrying, there was a cup of lemon tea on
top.
“This is lemon tea I made. Drink it to ward off the cold, or you might catch one,” Zoya said.
Wren pursed his lips, gazing at the lemon tea before him, and remained silent.
“Drink it,” Zoya said simply and directly, raising the cup and offering it to Wren.
Wren reached out, obediently took the cup, then lowered his head and drank the lemon tea.
As he drank the lemon tea, his handsome face showed no change in expression; he consistently drank at a steady pace.
Zoya was satisfied. Her mother had taught her to make lemon tea, adding extra ingredients when cooking it. As a result, it tasted worse than regular lemon tea, but it was also more effective.
When she used to make lemon tea for her teammates, they always drank it with their faces scrunched up.

Wren was the first to drink it so expressionlessly.
“Does it taste good?” she asked curiously.
“No,” he replied truthfully.

She was stunned for a moment. “Then why didn’t you show any expression, and why didn’t you refuse?”
“You told me to drink it, didn’t you?” he said.
Zoya froze. He sounded like he would drink anything she told him to.
‘If I handed him poison, would he drink that, too?’ she wondered.
However, in the end, Zoya didn’t voice these thoughts.
After Wren finished the lemon tea, she raised her hand and reached out toward his forehead.
When her palm touched his forehead, he suddenly stiffened.
“Good, no fever,” Zoya said, then withdrew her hand.
Wren felt a pang of loss. He unexpectedly wished her hand could have lingered longer; a yearning slowly grew within him.
Unconsciously, it seemed to grow stronger.
For the next two days, Wren did not leave the villa, and Zoya also stayed there, until an uninvited guest arrived.
Daphne looked at Zoya with surprise. “Why are you here?”
“I’m staying here temporarily,” Zoya replied flatly.
Daphne’s expression changed. This villa was once lived in by Wren’s parents, and besides the servants, Wren never allowed anyone else to live here.
“Zoya, don’t think that staying in this villa makes you special to Wren,” Daphne suddenly sneered. “There’s a room in the villa that Wren never lets anyone enter. You haven’t been in there, have you?”
Zoya was startled. When she moved into the villa, Wren had indeed told her not to enter the room at the end of the third floor.
“But I’ve been in,” Daphne said triumphantly. It was as if, at that moment, she was the true
