Rebecca, however, seemed oblivious to any impropriety. Noticing Dylan frozen on the edge of the bed, she urged him, “Go on, take your shower. Get some rest—we have to head back first thing in the morning.”

Dylan tore his gaze away, visibly uncomfortable. “Yeah, I know.” He turned sharply and strode into the bathroom, keeping his expression cold.

No sooner had he closed the door than Rebecca’s voice drifted through, cheerful and affectionate: “Hey, sweetheart~”

The word “sweetheart” made Dylan pause, but he didn’t linger to eavesdrop. He closed the door firmly behind him.

Rebecca quickly explained the sudden storm to her four little ones, telling them to head to bed early since she wouldn’t be home until the morning.

By the time she hung up, Dylan had finished his shower and stepped back into the room.

Rebecca glanced up and saw that he was still dressed head to toe in his suit, every button fastened, every inch of skin concealed. She frowned in disbelief.

Did he sleep in business attire every night?

Then again, this man always looked so prim and proper; it was almost boring.

Setting her phone aside, Rebecca flashed Dylan a smile. “Goodnight, Mr. Austin. I’m turning in.”

For a moment, Dylan was thrown by her smile. Her eyes were captivating, bright and expressive—almost flirtatious, even though she was just saying goodnight.

Why did she have to announce she was going to sleep, anyway?

He answered with a curt, “Goodnight,” then turned away and went to sit in the armchair by the window.
