The Contract Said No Strings Attached (Charlotte) novel Chapter 538

When Rebecca heard the Foster family had come, she rushed home.

She saw the pendant and recognized it immediately.

“An old gentleman did give me this pendant, but Hogan took it and put it away.”

Hogan had told her she was just a child and could easily lose something so valuable, so he would keep it safe for her.

She was so young then that she had forgotten all about the pendant until her grandfather brought it up.

Rebecca looked at her grandfather excitedly. “Grandpa, so that old gentleman was you?”

The old master smiled and nodded. “Yes, and besides me, you also met Dylan that day.”

Rebecca was baffled. “What? I met Dylan?”

The old master chuckled. “You did. The two of you have quite the history.”

Rebecca felt a flicker of a memory and frowned, trying hard to recall.

After taking her grandfather to the hospital and waiting for him, she had seen a boy by a pond.

He was wearing a fine little suit, his expression cold and distant.

She remembered watching him curiously, wanting to talk to him but feeling shy.

He was sitting there, sulking and ignoring everyone, his legs dangling over the edge of the pond. For some reason, the sight of him made young Rebecca worry that he might do something drastic, like jump into the water.

Eventually, she mustered the courage to walk over, tug on his sleeve, and offer him her candy.

She spoke like a little adult, trying to coax him. “Hey, mister, come on down. I’ll give you candy if you do.”

At first, he refused, even shaking her hand off.

But she was persistent. “Fine, I’ll give it to you even if you don’t come down.”

He finally took it, though his expression remained cool and detached.
